Anyone going to/been to Dent

Hi

Is anyone going to Dent this weekend. It is my first time to the Festival (thought I have been to the village many times - great line up this year - any tips from those that have been? Is there just Black Sheep beers at the festival site or are there usually other real ales (I'm not keen on Black Sheep for some reason!). I assume it is a marquee based festival - is this correct?

Also which is the best campsite?

Cheers

Joe G

We'll be there, we've previously stayed on Conder Farm campsite which is basic but we had some excellent sessions and big spaces for the kids to run about. It is the furthest from the festival field.

This year we've been upgraded to High Laning (which has posh showers we're told!) as the festival is paying for our camping.

Festival is marquee based. Can't remember what beer was available only that there was lots of it and it was good!

All main marquee events are sold out apparently, but there are lots of sessions and singarounds, and concerts on the new 2nd stage (in the beer tent) where the real action will take place anyway! Camping still available as far as I know as well.

We're really looking forward to it, it is such a beautiful place nestling in the Dale. Bring insect repellent though!

We're going. Camping booked for High Laning site too.

This is our first time at Dent so can't comment on anything re beer etc.

How can mudcatters make ourselves known to one another? - I've no Mudcat badge or anything. My lot should be fairly easy to spot: two young women, one playing a distinctive looking tenor recorder the other with whistle and English concertina, an older woman playing melodeon (one with a green dragon on the front), and a man singer. If anyone spots us please come over and say hello.

There will be a gazebo selling previously cherished (second-hand) books about folk music ( a number from the private collection of Nigel and MAry Hudleston and songs and tunes.

By all means come along and say hello and I am happy to act as a central point of contact.

I shall keep a book if anyone is interested.

My top tip for visiting Dent is take midge repellant. They're fierce!
For the past two years it's been Black Sheep only on site but plenty Dent Brewery beer in the two village pubs

My favourite festival in England. Always well programmed and a wonderful location. Sad to miss it this year

We'll be easy to find if you're not watching Racheal Unthank, we are on the Beer tent stage at 10.00pm on Friday night......great slot huh, I guess most people will be watching the Unthank girls!

Apart from that we'll be the ones looking for our lost children!

Thanks everyone for the feedback - especially re the midges - my partner Fiona will be smothering herself in repellent.

I will look out for people as described though I am a bit shy so probably will be in beer when I speak to you (but hopefully everyone else will be too). I'm not very distinguished but I'm blond, 5'9", can usually be seen sporting a Shrewsbury FF, Musicport or Topic FC tee shirt and will probably be crying all the way through John Tams & Barry Coope's set because that is the effect they had on me at Shrewsbury (mind you at least they are on in the afternoon so I won't be as tired and emotional as I was at Shrewsbury!)

See some of you there!

Oh, Dave - that's a great idea. Thanks.
We shall certainly come along and browse through the books and things and hopefully find ourselves a treasure or two.

Joe G - you sound fairly easy to pick out so will look out for you and Fiona and say hello.

Does the esteemed Mr Harding still have his 'cow shed' in Dent?

Let's hope it isn't so cold I need to wear a sweat shirt Marilyn! I'll look out for you and others too. We will probably be wth our friend Neil who is fairly tall and bears a resemblance to the boring one on Peep Show - I'm hoping he doesn't read this as he has got my tickets but I suspect he might!

Looking like it's going to be wet, windy and cold.

Just have to warm things up with some good sessions!

Just as well we have finally had our Berlingo converted into a luxurious, if not exactly spacious, camper van then!!
A lovely job done by Drivelodge in Crosshills near Keighley if anyone is thinking of doing something similar.

Let us hope the forecast is wrong though!

Looks like we are camping in the Mill Beck Camp Site so if anyone is there and recognises the vehicle above come and say hello! We will call into Dave's tent and introduce ourselves and sign the book!

Its been raining heavily all day here in Bradford so let's hope the ground isn't too Glastonbury like.

Just had a frustrating night trying to work out why my Windows Vista isn't updating itself with no luck so will be glad of a few beers and some decent music to take my mind off how much Bill Gates is worth.

Cheers

Forecast looking better for tomorrow......might get a bit damp while putting the tent up though!

Car packed, just need to pick up the kids from school later and we're off!

Hi again everyone

Great weekend despite the weather doing its best to do its worst. Of course the sun shone brightly all the way home (and today - grr). Sorry I did not get to say hello to more of you - only managed to spot Dave in his gazebo. My tee shirts by which I could have been recognised were covered most of the weekend by a sweatshirt, raincoat or both!

Paul - are you in the band with the pipes that were on when I popped into the bar during Rachel's set (didn't hear name of band) - the music sounded good and would like to get the chance to see the band again if they are round Bradford way.

Highlights for me were Rachel Unthank (who I've really enjoyed since first discovering them at a Demon Barbers Session in Bradford), Tim Edey Band (who I had not heard of before but they were brilliant), John Tams & Barry Coope (of course!!), Chumbawamba and two bands in the beer tent - The Volcanics - great Klezmer & Eastern European music & The Garrs (young lads whose style reminded me of the early days of the Whiskey Priests). But to be honest everything we heard was of a very high quality (though I must admit it did confirm that I find Rory McLeod and Shooglenifty very tedious)

Hope to be back next year and pray for better weather - we were glad to be in the van and not in our old saggy tent!

Only complaints - got bored with Black Sheep - not my favourite beers - and thought the fact they charged £1.50 for half a rip off when a pint was £2.50
Cheers

Joe,

Joe,

No, I was on with Wendy Arrowsmith who was on the Black Sheep stage after the band you are talking about (same time as Mike someone or other was on the main stage)! They were very good though, I think they had the full line up doing the Celidh on Saturday in the big tent as well..... but their name escapes me just now.

I caught up with Ossonflags and the rest of the East Yorkshire "crew" (including regular guest Leila of course), Folkiedave and that was about it I think. Apart from "real" life friends of course.

I really enjoyed Kris Drever, Chumbawumba and thought Shooglenifty were pretty good for a dance and a drink on a Saturday night. I really did not enjoy some of the other main stage acts though (some really bland stuff I thought)- not that I saw them all. Had some good sings and sessions and enjoyed a lot that was on offer on the aforementioned Black Sheep stage.

Cheers

Paul

Sorry I missed you then Paul - I didn't realise the band I liked were the same as the one at the ceildh as they sounded a bit dull but we only stayed a few minutes there as we were shattered so maybe they were still warming up.

Its Shrewsbury next for us - great line up - particularly looking forward to seeing Glorystrokes. Only downside is the queue to get in the main marquee and the fact that the 2 years I have been I've fallen out with a stroppy steward (though most of them of course are great). Third time lucky hopefully!

I did like the relaxed vibe at Dent and certainly hope to be back - if the weather allows will try to get some walking in next time.

Ey up Paul....

Well, I was def blown away by Kris's ok-ness on the guitar..

It was a lovely weekend.. lovely company! fab sessions in the pub and on the campsite at breakfast time!! Shame about the rain, but at least it kept the midges away!

Second best part.... was seeing Drew appear from back stage during Shoogleniftys set with a bottle of whisky.. That bloke is a legend!

Yes Drew. The one man traveling festival, I couldn't believe it when he produced G & Ts from his car on Sunday morning......complete with ice. Not that he'd be seen dead drinking one (unless there was nothing else of course). I hadn't heard that he had liberated a bottle of whisky from the 'Niftys, nice work!

Indeed he is a legend!
