Why call a vegetarian dish after a meat dish?

Burgers, cutlets, etc etc.

Can chickpeas
Egg
Onion
Garlic
Breadcrumbs
Chili

Heat the chickpeas until soft and mashable. Drain and mash.
Add finely chopped onion, garlic, chili etc., salt if you like it, and mash in egg (removing shell first).
Add breadcrumbs to make mixture that holds together without being too gooey.

Roll into 30mm balls, then flatten to 15mm thick.

Fry in oil until browned.

Serve with salad, bread, wine and love.

No. Neither am I, I love animals, especially well- cooked ones. You don't HAVE to be vegetarian to eat veggieburgers.

Paul, isn't that falafel? It's great with a nice lamb kofta or a kebab.

Guest - I do love vegetables (I grow my own). I also love vegetarians - some of my best friends are vegetarians (and they form a great standby if we run out of meat).

....which, I believe, goes under the delightful name of anthropophagy.

Have you tried necrochristadelphophagy?

(as in "I'm that hungry, I could eat a dead Christian Brother).

No, Paul, but I bet Hugh Fearnly-Whittingstall has - at least it's likely to be free range, unlinke your turkeys, Bernard.

You may the longer word, Paul, but I bet you can't find a poem with it in.

As in this (from memory) which I think may be by Edward Lear.

There once was a skinflint from Hitchin,
Had a cook, Mrs Casey of Cork.
There was nothing but crusts in the kitchen,
Whilst in the parlour was sherry and pork.
At last Mrs Casey, her pangs to assuage,
Having cut off his buttonses, curried the page.
So now whilst that skinflint eats sherry and pork
In the parlour adjacent to Hitchin,
To the tune, blithe and merry, of knife and of fork,
Anthropophagy reigns in the kitchen.

Necrochristadelphophagy
Is said to destroy the oesophagi
Of those who indulge.
A tumerous bulge
Takes them off to untimely sarcophagi.

And Fafalel- that's Welsh beer isn't it?

Whitby isn't a great place for vegetarians. It took us ages to find a chip shop that fried in vegetable oil.

Ah, deep fried vegetarians, nice.
Only problem is, you need to take vitamin supplements with them.
