Lyr Req: Nova Scotia's Beckoning Shores

Hi all,

I am looking for the name of the song that has the following line in it (or something close to it):

"I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, I'll come back to her welcoming shores".

It is a song about Nova Scotia, Canada. I would love to know the title, artist who popularized it, and the lyrics.

A group at the Nova Scotia International Tattoo performed it for our group and I have been hunting for the title ever since.

Thanks,

Bev

I wish I could help. I'm from down East but this one has me stumped as well. I know that George Seto could help for sure as well as Bee and Sandy. Why don't you join up and you could send them a message.

"I hope and I pray, that maybe someday, I'll come back to her welcoming shores" is a sentiment that would be in a number of songs.

Do you remember WHEN it was, or who the group was? I see mention of the Tattoo so it might have been a song sung by the massed choir.

Do you remember anything else about the song, Bev?

Thanks for the vote of confidence, Adrien!

Sorry, I'm also drawing a blank. However, videos of the Nova Scotia Tattoo are made for sale yearly, including much of the music. If you can find someone who is a Tattoo-ophile and has collected these, you may be able to track down song and artist.

I'm trying to check with some of my friends who have performed in the choir as I suspect it is the massed choir.

Unfortunetely, it wasn't performed in the Tattoo itself. It was performed by a ukelele group from BC after the show as a farewell and thank you to my group.

I cannot recall much more about the song other than the line in the original post, but I would know it if I heard the tune.

Thanks for trying!

The Langley Ukulele Ensemble performed it while at the Tattoo in 2007, but it was one of the Tattoo's themes in 2008.
The song's writer is Jamie Thomas. He's a teacher in Langley, BC and wrote this song in honour of his beloved Nova Scotia.

NOVA SCOTIA'S BECKONING SHORES
by Jamie Thomas

CHORUS:
C       G7             A-                C    F       G7       C F C
Nova Scotia your mystery reigns on - now as ever before
A-                            F
Capturing all of your sons and your daughters
       D-                               G7
And tying our hearts to your shores
C                G7          A-            C             F             G7                C F C
Bringing us dreams of people and scenes, and motionless seagulls that soar
       F             G7          E7             A-      F             G7             C
And making us pray that we will one day return to your beckoning shores

        C                                              E-
Down in Mahone Bay where boats reflect sun rays
             F                                              D-
Beneath the fine homes on the hill
        F                                           C                 D7                                G7
Three steeples reach for the heavens above, Christening the skies that they fill
                   C                            E-                                  F                              D-
The Bay of Fundy tide makes all the water hide far from Blomiden's view
                   F                   G7          E7       A-          F                         G7
The powers that bring the water again Shall bring me back one day to:

                CHORUS

                C                                           E-
In Neil's Harbour they say that Heaven's not far away
                      F                                     D-
And some think they're already there
                           F                                        C                                      D7                         G7
With beaches and mountains and long wooded trails And the smell of the sea in the air
        C                                        E-                             F                               D-
Out on the Gulf Shore as bonfire flames soar, three provinces in our view lay
                         F                   G7             E7          A-                  F                         G7
And the sunsets that glow on the farmland below Shall bring me back one day to:

                CHORUS
