Has anybody heard or a song with this title or containing these words? I'm trying to find it for a bloke who lives in a remote part of Ireland whose mother used to sing it to him, perhaps in the '40s or '50s, but he can't remember it now or find it written or recorded anywhere. I've looked in plenty of songbooks, catalogues and libraries with no luck, tried the database and had the forum search give me a lot of error messages so no luck there either. Yet.

All help or ideas gratefully appreciated.

GN,Thanks for the idea. You might be right, I won't know for a good while yet. The chap that I'm asking for can only be contacted by letter, or by travelling to see him which I don't plan to do in the forseeable future, so I'm going to gather as many ideas as I can within the next few weeks and send them to him together, hopefully with tunes.

I'd not heard of that version of the 'white cockade', only the 'he advanced me' version which gets sung a lot here, so thanks for pointing me to a new song.
