Lyr Req: We part in friendship's name

Has anybody come across a song with this title or containing these words? I've been trying to find it for a bloke in Ireland whose mother used to sing it to him, probably in the '40s or '50s, now he can't remember the words or find it written or recorded anywhere. I've looked in a lot of places with no luck yet.

If you think you've already read this not very long ago and are wondering if you've gone mad, don't worry, I've just written the same message for the other song he's looking for.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
Liz

It is probably totally off beam, but Iolanthe has a G&S song with those words, in which two characters agree to give up something or someone (I think the heroine) in friendship's name. But it can't be that, can it?

On her CD of the same title Gordeanna McCulloch sings a song called 'In Freenship's Name'. I haven't got the lyrics written down yet. The notes say they're from Herd's collection. Perhaps you can get hold of the CD. I'll come back when I've listened to the song. - Susanne

Penny S

nothing would surprise me!
I don't suppose for a second that just because you lived in Ireland at that time you only sing old Irish songs. I've had about a dozen D'Oyly Carte L.Ps, from 1962, in my house for fifteen years or more and never listened to them, Iolanthe is there and will be on the record player tonight. You've given me an excuse to listen to them, thanks for that and for the tip. Even the neighbours might be impressed - got to be better than listening to my out of tune singing.
Cheers,
Liz

Liz, I listened tonight, and I'm now quite sure the song Gordeanna sings is not the one you're after. The only line that mentions your words is
    ... raise a song in freenship's name,
    and the chorus goes:
    Happy we've been all together
Canty we've been one and all
Time shall see us a' more blither
Ere we rise to go awa'
Sorry about that! - Susanne

Susanne, thanks a lot for making the effort to dig out the cd and to listen for me. It's appreciated.
