Hi, I'm trying to find lyrics for The Devil's Fiddle as performed by Contraband. If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

CONTRABAND - "CONTRABAND" - VINYL LP + lyric sheet

TRA278 - TRANSATLANTIC - 1974

Rattlin Roarin Willie / The Black Rogue-Jigs / Lady For Today / The Devil's Fiddle / On The Road / The Spanish Cloak-Jigs / Alec's Interlude / Stainforth Blues / Come Up Smiling / The Banks Of Claudy / Edward Sayers Brass Band.

I know someone who, I think, has this LP, I'll try ringing them up a bit later on.

Subject: Lyr Add: THE DEVIL'S FIDDLE (John Martin)
From: DMcG

A gypsy maid was walkin' down by the river side
And suddenly before her a young man she espied
She said "Kind sir pray tell to me, whither do you stay?"
"I live in Brompton Castle over hills and far away."

The girl she prayed the devil would help her in her plan
"How can I, a peasant girl be wedded to this man?"
"First give to me your parents and your four young brothers' souls
And I will make a violin to lure him like a foal."

From the body of her father he made a violin
From the bodies of her brothers, he boldly made the strings
And from her mother's long white hair he quickly made a bow
The girl she played a melody, long and soft and low.

The Prince he heard her playin' from his castle far away
When he heard the devil's music no longer could he stay
He found the girl still playin' with the fiddle in her hand
And vowed that he would wed her, and give her half his land.

But when they were returnin' to the castle to be wed
The devil overtook them, and this is what he said:
"You've heard the devil's music and for that you must remain
In my kingdom far below the earth, in Hell, in my domain."

-- written by John Martin, one of the members of Contraband.
