Yup! One of the best festivals of the summer, and not to be missed. See you there.

Let us hope the overnight sessions in the beer tent will still be on, despite a certain person's (not anyone here) transgressions last year. Usually there is that scottish fellow with the magnificent bodhran with the skin about half an inch thick. I so enjoy his playing, he really makes it talk.

Does anyone know whether the vans will be segregated again this year? It's a shame when sides are unable to camp as a bunch.

I'll be there with the aforementioned Pig Dyke Molly, and also Rockingham Rapper. The camping information says that a special area has been set aside for Morris this year, and that vans can park at the edge of the field. So should be a winner all round.

Hmmm! Segregation of Morris dancers, eh?

Not a bad idea - but are you sure it's legal?

I can confirm that I will be there but I can't get there until mid pm of early evening Saturday. My work place needs me all day Friday.
I apologise in advance if you see me yawning at various times over the weekend, if all goes to plan I will leave home in the early hours of Saturday morning and drive through the dawn.
I've got plenty of good music for the car sound system.
Line up a beer for me John, I will try to remember the route you suggested.   See you all soon.   Bo

I shant be there (since I'll be at West Somerset FF) but Orange Peel Morris from Ontario Canada will be.
We (that's Exmoor Border) have just been dancing with them at Chepstow and they do so enjoy their dancing it's contagious. Do look out for them.
Some of them sing, too! (Inc JohnB)

Vanwatch alert!

(If you are puzzled by "vanwatch" check out some old Pigs Ear and Miskin and NotMiskin threads)

You read it here first! Almost by accident (well, I didn't really expect my bid to win) I have bought a newer caravan on Ebay and I expect to have collected it in time to use it for Ely although there are some issues with the ally frame round the door so a few self tappers may have to be pressed into service.

So any issues will be reported here as days draw on.

If all goes well I wil be aiming to out my old van -cheap.

Little probably 420 size Leda.
Dent in roof from overhanging branch at Faversham when I first got her 2 or 3 years ago. I bashed it roughly straight (very roughly) and re-sealed with flexible mastic whch has proved waterproof until earlier this year. Small leak at Knockholt this year, since re-treated with Captain Tolly's creeping crack cure (!) probably now OK. Spare bottle of Capt Tolly's included but unscrewing and re-screwing the side roof rail with fresh mastic would I suspect provide a definte and permanent-ish cure. I have also cured old leaks around front window and sunshine roof. No leaks from roof vent.

Good bits:
Nearly new fridge, self-igniting (not one of those crappy piezo lighters). Space under fridge to use as beer or wine cellar.
Old but perfectly working Carver Cascade gas water heater.
On-board upgraded (last year) water pump pumps both hot and cold water, pumps up from external water after priming on a Whale footpump when first setting up.
Shower better than some of the home electric-heated ones.
Modern-ish Zig unit and TP2 battery pack.
85 A/H Battery 1 year old.
Sleeps as 2 single beds or large double.
Flexible internal layout with end or side table.
Fiametta external vented gas fire (with new piezo igniter that looks ugly on the side of it outside the casing but now works perfectly). Vent pipe runs through wardrobe to keep clothes bone-dry.
The best bit! Over-bunk internal cupboards removed and replaced by shelves that will hold 4 guitars, 2 mandolins, bodhran, song books and busking amp.
2-ring hob, grill, and oven.
Wardrobe with removable semi-floor for extra storage, and chest of drawers.
Wired for quad sound with boom-box (CD-radio and boom-box extra by negotiation)
Sizeable under-seat storage, one compartment makes airing cupboard thanks to the carver tank, very good for sleeping bags or pillows.
Serviced this winter, brakes and tyres good.
All double-glazed (plastic) and no winow problems.
Gross weight about 700kg - when I first got it I was towing with no problems with a Skoda Felicia 1600, easily bettering 60mph.
Bulldog stabiliser (unless I need it for the new van). I got her onsite at Ely last year with ease when many other vans were sticking.
All indicators and stop and side lights working fine.
I might include plastic step and maybe some water containers depending on what comes with new van.
Spare 500 watt genny (Yamaha) by negotiation - but probably no extension lead.
Carpet throughout - a reasonable DIY by previous owner.
Almost all cushions present, not pristine, but fair.
Brand new taps in kitchen sink.
Stainless sink and draining board, metal splashbacks by rings, easy-clean.
Rear panel re-proofed last year with injected closed-cell foam.
All leg winders OK.

The bad bits:
That dented roof (but it looks so tatty it makes effective burglar-proofing)
Sun-blind on the sunshine roof a bit tatty and erratic - not a hard DIY job. Curtains a bit thin on a sunny morning if you have a hangover.
Floor starting to creak a bit. Again not a bad DIY job, kits to re-glue the internal foam sandwich in the floor readily available on ebay.
Underneath floor at rear of van could do with some cunningly fashioned reinforcement out of 1/4 inch ply and frame sealant, not urgent or disastrous yet.
Signs of waterproofing problems at bottom of back wall in shower, although still better than many more modern vans.
If you are really anal you will want to remove the shower-tray and re-install it it a slight angle so the shower water runs out perfectly to the drain-corner. Alternatively be really careful about pitching with the van at the right angle to achieve the same effect.
Front locker a bit small by today's standards but would still take 2 x 13kg gas bottles (currently using 5 or 7 kg ones), gallon of petrol for teh genny, leg winder, 4 bottles of chemicals for the portaloo, and a couple of wooden chocks, oh, and the leg winder.
I might include some cooking utensils too.

In short, nearly an ideal little festival van for a player or playing couple. Several years more left in her with a bit of TLC, situated North Kent.

Cheap as chips - £300 ovno, less than a beater guitar to take camping!

Suject, of course, to the new van panning out OK.

Might come over during the day, if I can make it.

Got a dinner with some friends on the Sat evening though, and I'm doing sound at a local club on the Sun evening too, so I won't make the main concerts. I'll also be busy all the next weekend crewing at Cambridge Rockfest, so might have to opt out of Ely for some family time instead.

Graham.
