Lyr Req: Spacey, the Runaway Robot (Nelson/Javits)

I'm looking for the lyrics from a song circa 1958.

I'm not sure of the title, but "Spacey, the Run-a-way Robot" is as close as I can get. I heard my older sister play it on the radio in about 1958 +/- 2 years.

What I can (imperfectly?) remember is...

Spacey, the runaway robot, Lived way up-on the moon. He was made of aluminum, but he looked so humanum in his sauce pan hat, and checkerboard tie.

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom, Through space he zoomed. He didn't have a pilot, and he didn't have a crew.

But Spacey, the run a-way robot ... repeat from the top ...

Can anybody remember/get the rest/more, if there is any more?

Thanks, Jim Miller

Zoom, zoom, zoom through space he FLEW, he didn't have a pilot and he didn't have a crew.
He tried to turn for all he's worth, but he crashed--here on earth.
(there was more after that, but I don't remember anything else until near the end.)

Now Spacey had one little gadget. A laughful sonic ray.   When he shot that little gun, everyone had lots of fun, the people laughed, and everyone was gay.

(The people were sad to see him go.)

Said Spacey the runaway robot, "I'm comin' back real soon."

      That's all I remember.

I see that you posted this quite awhile ago but I do remember my mom singing that to me all the time. I was born in 1956. These are the words I know -

Spacey the Runaway Robot lived way up on the moon.
He took a little trip on his daddy's rocket ship and off he zoomed all way to the moon.
Zoom, zoom, zoom through space he zoomed. He didn't need a pilot and he didn't need a broom

Gosh, now I can't remember the rest. I wish I knew where it came from. I Googled it to find out and nothing, but that's how I found your question. Good Luck!

Well, the song exists. You may have to procure the CD; I can't find lyrics on the www.

You can hear it on Spotify. My transcription:

THE RUNAWAY ROBOT
As recorded by The Golden Records Orchestra on "Timeless Golden Records, Vol. 2"

Spacey, the runaway robot,
Was only three feet high.
He was made of aluminum,
But he looked so human in
A saucepan hat and a polka-dot tie.

Now Spacey, the runaway robot,
Lived way up on the moon,
And he took a little trip
In his father's rocket ship,
But he got lost one foggy afternoon.

Zoom, zoom, zoom! Through space he flew.
He didn't have a pilot and he didn't have a crew.
He tried to turn for all he's worth
Till he crashed—here on earth.

So Spacey, the runaway robot,
Went limping down the lane
Till he came to a garage
Where he had a batt'ry charge
And buzzety-buzz, he was runnin' again.

Said Spacey, the runaway robot:
"I am very sure
There are lots of sights to see
On this planet here for me,"
So off he went on a round-the-world tour.

[Instrumental break]

Now Spacey had one little gadget:
A laugh-o-sonic ray.
When he shot that little gun,
Ev'ryone had lots of fun
And people laughed and ev'ryone was gay.

How they love him, young and old,
'Cause underneath the tin he had a heart of gold,
And though they begged him please to stay,
He said: "I must be on my way."

Said Spacey, the runaway robot:
"I'm comin' back real soon."
Then he took another trip
On his father's rocket ship
And off he flew back home to the moon.

{"Robot" is pronounced "robut" by these singers.]

I had a couple records from back in the 50's that I think my mom got from cereal boxes. Spacey the runaway robot was one of the songs, An Apple for the teacher, Sly old gentleman from featherbed lane, Who Tied the bell on the old cat's tail, They were orange durable records. Does anyone remember them?
