BS: Iran threatens to cut hands off attackers

That should say "attackers"....

Well, I just had to beat Bearded Bruce to posting about this one. ;-) It's the kind of story he lives for.

Ahmadinejad has made a statement that Iran will cut off the hands of anyone who dares to attack Iran! Oh, my...that certainly is dramatic, isn't it?

His actual words (translated, I presume) are quoted as: "Before the enemies touch the trigger, Iran's armed forces will cut off their hands," Ahmadinejad said, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

Since I don't see how this could be physically accomplished, I have to assume that it is a strictly symbolic statement, and should not be taken literally. It probably sounds much more appropriate in the original language and idiom that Ahmadinejad is using. At least, I hope so! ;-D

Ahmadinejad clearly does not understand American psychology at all. If he did he would have said, "Before the enemies touch the trigger, Iran's armed forces will kick them in the balls."

Ahmadinejad is little more than a loud-mouthed moronic puppet serving the interests of the relgious fundamentalists and oil magnates who really run his country. He is also doubtlessly an embarrassment to many citizens of that country.

Okay, since we've now established that Iran and the US have at least one important thing in common, maybe we can start making some progress!

It's a pity that those two can't go on a little fishing cruise together and emerge as best of buddies. ;-)

Then too, I can just see a great little playground standoff scene between Ahmadinejad and Hillary Clinton.

Hillary: "We'll obliterate you Iranians."

Ahmadinejad: "Oh, yeah? Well...we'll cut your hands off!"

Hillary: "Yeah? Well, we'll unleash Bill's mighty 'weapon of mass destruction' on you people!"

And so on....

I would suggest that recent Bob Dylan concerts are broadcast from US ships at high volume towards Iran - they would surrender without a shot being fired!!

Iran discovers new oil field to hold 1 billion barrels of crude

TEHRAN, July 13 (RIA Novosti) - A new large oil deposit with estimated reserves of more than 1 billion barrels of crude has been discovered in Iran, the Iranian oil minister said on Sunday.

Gholamhossein Nozari said the oil field, located in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, is believed to contain 1.1 billion barrels of crude, with recoverable reserves of about 220 million barrels.

Iran ranks fourth in terms of crude reserves after Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait, as well as fourth in terms of oil production after Saudi Arabia, the United States and Russia.

Tehran exports the majority of crude produced in the country.

Iran grossed $70 billion from oil sales over the country's past solar year, which according to the Iranian calendar ran from March 21, 2007 until March 20, 2008, the oil minister earlier said.

Ahmadinejad Willing to Consider US Diplomatic Office in Tehran
By VOA News

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says he is willing to consider a U.S. diplomatic office in Tehran. He made the comment Sunday in response to a question after a cabinet meeting. He said he welcomes the idea of expansion of ties between the peoples of Iran and the United States.

The Iranian president said he has not received any official request for a U.S. diplomatic office.

American media reported in June that U.S. officials are debating whether the United States should open an interests section in Tehran.

Diplomatic relations have been cut since 1980, following the November, 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran by Iranian radicals.

The two countries remain at odds over the Iranian nuclear program and other issues. Iran has threatened to retaliate against Israel and U.S. bases in the Middle East if Iranian nuclear facilities are attacked.

U.S. Secretary of State Condolezza Rice has repeatedly offered to start a political dialogue with Iran if Tehran heeds U.N. Security Council calls to suspend its uranium enrichment effort, which U.S. officials believe is weapons-related.

Iran operates an interests section in Washington, technically part of the embassy of Pakistan. U.S. interests in Iran are handled by the Swiss embassy.

Some information for this report was provided by AFP and AP.

TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran and Gazprom Sunday signed an agreement for the Russian energy giant to help Tehran develop its oil and gas fields, days after Total dropped out of a multi-billion-dollar gas deal.

"The Iranian National Oil Company and Gazprom signed an agreement in which the two sides will cooperate in the development of Iran's oil and gas fields," the oil ministry's Shana news agency said.

No financial details were given but the agreement signals Iran's determination to secure Russian help for exploiting its energy resources as Western countries pull out due to political pressure.

The head of French energy giant Total last week said it was dropping out of a multi-billion-dollar gas investment to develop phase 11 of the South Pars gas field, saying it was currently too risky politically to invest in Iran.

Western governments have pressured firms to cut their ties with Iran over the country's controversial nuclear programme, which world powers fear could be aimed at seeking atomic weapons -- a charge vehemently denied by Tehran.

The United States, Iran's arch enemy, has also been urging global energy giants to cut their ties with Tehran, saying that doing business sends the wrong message at a time of growing tensions in the nuclear crisis.

"Gazprom will be a cooperative partner for the Islamic Republic of Iran," Iranian state television quoted Alexei Miller, CEO of the Russian state-controlled firm, as telling President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting.

Other issues covered in the cooperation agreement include possible participation of Gazprom in the planned peace pipeline that would deliver Iranian gas to India and Pakistan, Shana said.

Improving recovery rates in Iran's ageing oil fields and Russian help in transferring Caspian Sea crude oil to the Gulf of Oman are also mentioned.

Cooperation in the development of Iran's North Azadegan oil field, part of the vast Azadegan filed in southwestern Iran, was also mooted in the agreement, Shana said.

It said that working groups would be formed to implement the cooperation and a joint company would be set up between the two countries for cooperation in oil and gas.

State television said Miller expressed willingness for Gazprom to participate "in big oil and gas projects; in South and North Pars, Azadegan and the Caspian Sea fields."

Ahmadinejad, for his part, said that Iran was "interested in expanding ties with Russia in oil and gas as far as possible," state television said.

The South Pars field in the Gulf has around 500 trillion cubic feet (14 trillion cubic metres) of gas, which represents about eight percent of world reserves.

But the lack of foreign investment has so far delayed the development of the giant offshore field and dented Iran's hopes of becoming a major gas exporter.

Azadegan is Iran's biggest onshore oil field with an estimated 42 billion barrels of crude oil in place and production started in February using only Iranian firms after the Japanese partner Inpex quit the project.

Iran sits on the world's second largest proven oil reserves worldwide and is the number four crude producer worldwide and the second in the oil cartel OPEC.

It also has the second biggest proven global gas reserves after Russia but so far has played only a minor role on the gas export market.

Russia, while approving three sets of UN sanctions against Tehran, has repeatedly argued the nuclear standoff should be solved through diplomacy and still has significant economic interests in Iran.

Iran condemns McCain joke that exporting American cigarettes could be a way of killing Iranians

Payvand.com - Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini, speaking in Tehran on Saturday, called the recent remarks made US Republican presidential candidate senator John McCain as 'unethical' and 'shameful', IRNA reported from Tehran.

Such remarks only indicates his spiteful thoughts that are used in US foreign policy.

Denouncing these comments, Hosseini expressed regret over such illogical reasoning.

According to the Information and Press Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hosseini said politicians who hold the fates of a civilization in their hands should mind their words.

Two civilized nations of Iran and the US fully denounce such views and would remember them, he said.

US republican presidential candidate John McCain on reacting to a report of rising US cigarette exports to Iran said "May be that's a way of killing them."

First of all we have Bee-dubya-ell, raising non-existant oil magnates who somehow "control" Iranian oil - Hint Bee-dubya-ell, it is all owned nationally.

Then we have this ridiculous and illogical piece of nonsense:

"Think of Cheney and Ahmadinejad as opposing pro wrestlers talking trash to inflate the price of oil." - Guest Jack the Sailor.

Said before but just to let it sink in:

The amount of oil and gas owned/controlled by oil magnates/companies amounts to about 7% of the worlds supply, leaving 93% controlled by National Oil Companies. Cheney owns and controls none of it, so maybe JtS can explain how ratcheting the price up to over $140 per barrel is in Cheney's interest, I can see perfectly well how Iran, Russia, Venezuela, in fact all the big oil exporting nations benefit from that.

Teribus, my dictionary defines "magnate" as a "very influential person". The term does not necessarily have anything to do with individual or corporate wealth. Do you contend that there are not influential people in Iran who exert power over its oil industry?

Of course there are, you already identified them in your previous post Bee-dubya-ell:

"Ahmadinejad is little more than a loud-mouthed moronic puppet serving the interests of the relgious fundamentalists and oil magnates who really run his country."

Should read:

"Ahmadinejad is little more than a loud-mouthed moronic puppet serving the interests of the relgious fundamentalists who really run his country."

Oh, almost forgot, the oil and gas on the UKCS is owned by the British Government Akenaton. On the Norwegian Continental Shelf by the Norwegian Government, etc, etc.

Iran and Gazprom eh?

Looks like a recipe for disaster in the future. In the event of conflict, would the USA deliberately target Gazprom installations in Iran? Could be a tad risky.

In Iran it is the religious fundamentalist authorities and officials who ARE the magnates.

In Soviet Russia it was the top communist officials who were the magnates. Like our capitalist magnates, they had big expensive cars and lavish private vacation villas on sunny southern coasts.

Magnates are pretty much the same in any system, methinks. They have a great deal more in common with each other than they would like to admit.

A oil magnate stormed into his lawyer's office demanding that divorce proceedings begin at once against his young bride.

"What's the problem?" the lawyer inquired.

"I want to hit that adulterin' bitch for breach of contract," snapped the oil magnate.

"I don't know if that will fly," the lawyer replied. "Your wife isn't a piece of property. You don't own her!"

"Damn right," the tycoon snarled, "but I sure as hell expect exclusive drillin' rights!"
