Come Write Me Down recording?

14 Jul 08 - 01:17 PM (#2388657)
Subject: Come Write Me Down (Wedding Song)?
From: Cath

Does anyone know how/where I can get hold of a recording of this song? I don't want a CD and I don't mind who is singing it. Is it available on iTunes?
Thanks in anticipation.
Cath

Go to source: the Copper Family. Now search . . .

Done that - got the words but, unless I'm missing something, it didn't take me to the music. All I want is the one song as an mp3 or similar. Can I do that on the Copper's site?

Whats wrong with buying it ? this gives some royalties to the artists singing it.

Absolutely nothing except that it is the song I want, not the whole LP and I might want to have it sung by someone else if someone else has recorded it!
I am prepared to pay for it as a download through iTunes if that is possible.

have you checked iTunes? The Young Coppers CD is probably on it.

Thank you Ruth and Eric I'll have a look.
I'm not being mean about this but I'm currently in Orkney and need the song fairly quickly and even though I could order something online there is no guarantee it would arrive in time - hence my wish to be able to download it if possible.
I do actually like the YT and Shirley Collins and most of the Copper repertoire - I just don't want it all at the moment!!

A swift glance at A Song For Every Season as notated by David Kettlewell shows that the tune is in D min and 4/4 time and goes:
C F F F F-G A A A
F-A C C D-C Bb-A G G-A G
G-A C Bb A-G F D G F-E
D-C F F F G-A Bb A G
A-Bb C Bb A A-Bb A G F
The hyphenated notes are half the length of the others, some longer ones may be dotted (and the folowing ones shortened accordingly) and the "and"s usually come out as triplets when sung, according to your taste in ornamentation.

Thank you for that Diane.
If I was planning to sing it that would be helpful but I was hoping to play someone else singing it at a wedding which is to take place in just over a week, hence the request for an mp3 version that I could play through iTunes on my Mac.

It's here in A maj and including MIDI. I think it sounds more than slightly odd but it will give you some clue.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
I've at last managed to learn how to set up a UK (rather than US) iTunes account and downloaded a version by an American harmony choir (In Harmony's Way) which is possibly more accessible to the non-folky audience who will be listening to it.
I had a glance at the membership of the group and Shay Black was included - last time I came across him he was running an Irish bar in Hannover if my memory serves me correctly. Small world or what?
