BS: Do you resent your Phone Company?

Please settle a bet for me.

I think that most people are like me and dislike their phone companies and consider them at best a necessary evil.

My wife believes that most people don't think about it much.

This is a straw poll so the people respond the better. Please share positive or negative or humorous experiences.

I've been on an all-VOIP service for about a year or so, and am completely satisfied.

I strongly resent all phone companies except Verizon.

No, I don't resent my phone company. It would have to show substantial improvement in all areas of its performance in order to rise to the level of mere resentment.

I rank my phone company at about the same level as my underarm deodorant - unfortunately necessary much of the time.

If you use a phone albeit a mobile, landline, voip or even have internet service you are dealing with a 'phone company'. Love it, or hate it, that's the way it is.

On the grand scale of whatever, I don't think about it enough to mention; but: "Only $27.50 per month..."

Phone Service for the month:       $27.50
   Line acess fee:                      7.25
   System maintainence charge          11.14
   Administration expense surcharge      8.93
   Headquarters janitorial expenses       .37
   Fuel for CEO's yacht                  9.11

I also kinda resent that, after I typed that up with the figures all in a nice accounting column, it popped up with them staggered all over.   : )

I never had any complaints about Verizon, but it is also my ISP, and in that capacity it has recently stopped supporting most of the newsgroups I read. For the time being I am making do with Google Groups, but I am desultorily in the market for an ISP that devotes its energies to improving rather than degrading its service. And if it will give me telephone service as well, all the better.

Generally this sector has a licence to print money.

Their procuct packages and a customer service is based on their interests, not those of customers.

If you disagree with their policies, services or billing, you are mostly at their mercy.

I think that in the UK the standing charges are usually a ripoff, and the billions of alternative suppliers after market deregulation usually have some double whammy in the small print.

Mobile phone charges are simply a scam, usually.

I'm an AT&T stockholder.
I've lost half my investment in what I thought was a "blue chip" stock.
And they treat me like dirt, too.

I resent my phone company.
Something about the area and the way the Co is set up means that they are the ONLY place people in their Service Area can get internet and sometimes the service is sort of crappy.

I used to resent them when those deals where you could subscribe to another long distance carrier for cheaper rates started being advertised.
Another thing we're not able to do because of the way our phone co is set up.

However, I am glad that I have access to phone/internet service..so I guess I'm not quite as resentful as I think I am--except sometimes.

I dumped my land line a couple years ago and only have cell phone service now through Verizon Wireless. I have no complaints about them whatsoever and I've had the account for about 8 years now. Every 2 years they give me $200 towards a new phone and I can get a signal almost anywhere.

Over here in Hull (UK) we had our own municipally-owned telephone service. But that nice Mrs Thatcher thought that someone ought to be making a profit out of it and forced the Council to sell it (along with water supply, drainage, buses and so on). So after my resent for Thatcher there's not really very much left for anything else.

I live in a small town with a locally owned phone company. We have a land line and internet service, if we were to get cable TV we would get it through them rather than Mediacom. No complaints.

The one big advantage of our municipal 'phones was that we could get European Community funds to upgrade all the cabling to optical. Another big advantage was that local calls are untimed. I use the company that was set up as my internet provider as well.

One of the distinctive things about Hull was our White telephone boxes . Happily we've still got one or two left.
