"In Xanadu did Kubla Khan a stately pleasure dome decree.
Where Alph, the sacred river ran, through caverns measureless to man...."

"Oh, crap"

When I was without pen and paper or when I was driving or some such, before I got a digital voice recorder, I used to call myself on a cell phone and leave messages on my answering machine.

Of course, if you don't recognize the voice, it's annoying.

Or just simply record it using the recorder on the mobile - they do have their uses as well as abuses!

I've written some really good tunes while driving in my car, but forgotten them by the time I get home. There's a really great waltz tune that I wrote during a traffic jam on I-95 in Virginia, I'd like to think it's floating in the air down there and maybe someone else picked it up and used it.

It happens to me a lot when songwriting.

I console myself with the thought that it just couldn't have been that memorable. Come to think of it, some of the songs that I do remember turn out not to be that memorable as well.

carry the famous Moleskine pocket leather notebook. Be it Hemmingway or Woody Allen, it is the only way to back up your brain.
