24 Jul 08 - 09:01 AM (#2396687) Subject: clubs/song sessions nr Leicester Monday? From: Anne Lister I'm working at a Youth Offender Institution near Leicester on Monday and Tuesday next week and was wondering if there are any folk clubs or song sessions on the Monday night, reasonably close? I'm staying south of Leicester and won't want to drive more than about 15 miles, but all suggestions welcome (at least, the ones relevant to this query!) Anne |

From: Big Al Whittle The musician Clyde Street in leicester - monday night is an open mike night. there are a lot of singer songwriters. i only know your work from derek brimstone singing Icarus - but i would think you would fit in pretty well. i saw eric bogle and the texan guy Eric taylor there - so perhaps they only book people called Eric. but you never know your luck. Either way its an entreee to Leicester folkies - a lot of musos hang round there and it is quite chic for gary linekers home city. |

From: Big Al Whittle I rather think the Woodlark at lambley is on that night - very much your sort of place and just a fast drive down the A46 fro m the Leicester ring road. Tina Taylor runs it and she is very nice and helpful, i feel sure you will get on http://www.myspace.com/woodlarkfc |

From: Acorn4 I can recommend the session in the Black Horse, Braunstone Gate - you can park easily in the MFI car park behind the pub -it's close to the junction of Narborough Road with Hinckley Road -run by a fine fellow called Ken Wilson, although it doesn't actually put itself in the diary - the kick off is usually about 9.00 so don't worry if things seem a bit slow at first. It's an anything goes session not specifically folk. Andy Griffith's Musician night mentioned already is an open mike whereas Ken's is singaround format, so it depends which you prefer. |
