Information for all South Yokshire folkies. John Kelly the 'Harmonium Hero' will be guest at Kiveton Park Folk Club, near Sheffield on Tuesday 5th August.
John has a good pedigree in the folk business, playing solo and with a number of bands at clubs and festivals over the last thirty years. He's a singer of mainly traditional songs, many accompanied on his trusty harmonium, others on cittern or guitar, with equal expertise. So to hear some great traditional song interpretations with a variety of instruments, performed with style and sensitivity, come and see this guy. You won't be disappointed. A great night promised! Friendly crowd, free grub/tea/coffee, cheap bar and a riveting guest. Cant be bad!! See yer there. Kick-off 8.30.

Regards

Andy

Its not often I meet someone who makes me feel absolutely messianic in spreading his name around. But seeing John Kelly do a short floor spot last year at Mansfield Folk Club was just such an experience for me.

This guy deserves a break.

This week he is doing some ferocious floor spotting
Wednesday - hes's making a brief appearance at spalding FC
Thurs its The loughborough Acoustic club
Fri - I'll probably run him over to Bingham
Saturday the Robin Hood in Nottingham

Try and get to see this unique talent, buy his album - get your local club/festival to book him. You don't get as good as John Kelly in five minutes.

This guy is REALLY good. Get to Kiveton club if at all possible. If not, catch him at one of the venues that the drummer has indicated. You will have a great folk experience!

All the best

George

Rhiannon, it's John Kelly the Ship's Harmonium player and singer extraordinaire! He's a very fine performer and puts interesting 'new' slants on some great old songs. Drag Mick along and see him, he's a breath of fresh air. (IMHO, of course).

Thanks for the plugs. I was just about to post the details myself when I spotted this thread. To add to Al's itinerary, I'm also doing floor spots at:
The Scrag End FC, at the Shoulder of Mutton, Oakthorpe, on Sunday 10th;
The Grand Union FC, at the Soar Bridge Inn on Monday 11th;
Belper FC (20 minute spot at 8.30) at the Old King's Head on Tuesday 12th;
and Carrington FC, at the Gladstone, on Wednesday 13th.
If you miss this lot, I'll be back in November, as I'm booked at the Pack Horse, Loughborough on Friday 21st, and will be doing more promo spots in the week before this.
See Yiz. John Kelly.

Just to say that John Kelly did a great night at Kiveton on Tuesday. Well recieved by all. Good voice, great songs and nice accompaniments. Other Club organisers would do well to consider booking John, he's a top clas act and well worth the money.

Andy

I have just added another page to John kelly's website. It is essentially his album notes and gives an insight into the thoughts and repertoire of this great 'new' talent!

Hi John

No, it was this thread I think. I had asked earlier if you were the SAME John Kelly ...

Rhiannon: I'd just been looking at the other thread, and seen your question there, so assumed that it was in answer to that. There are a lot of John Kellys about; my daughter was looking at something on t'internet the other night about names, and it appears that John is the most common boy's name prefixing the name Kelly.
I know there are a couple - at least - of Irish musicians of that name doing the rounds, and when my name has been mentioned on Mudcat, the question "is this the same John Kely ......" has usually been asked. Unfortunately, it's the only name I've got - no middle name to clarify things. I was born shortly after the war, and there were shortages.....
