i need to know the name of a song. i know some of the lyrics. they're "where oh where can my baby be, the lord took her away from me" can anyone please tell me the name of that song?

I just heard this this weekend -- I can't remember the name of it either, but Pearl Jam has just done a new cover of it. Pearl Jam, fer heaven's sakes. (Who was the original artist? Does anyone remember??)

The rest of that stanza is, "She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good, so I can see my baby when I leave this world..." I was thinking "Teen Angel," but that's something different. Same sentiment, however.

The song is, I believe, called "Last Kiss". I have it on an old 45 (remember those???) and will look for it for the artist. campfire

Aha - that didn't take long! My 45 is by a group called "Wednesday" - the songwriter is "M. Cochran". Its on Sussex Records.

Lyrics to the best of my rememberability:

We were out on a date in my daddy's car
We hadn't driven very far
There in the road, straight ahead
A car was stalled, the engine was dead
I couldn't stop so I swerved to the right
I'll never forget the sounds that night
Crying tires and bustin" glass
The painful scream that I heard last

Chorus:
Where oh where can my Baby be?
The Lord took her away from me
She's gone to heaven so I've got to be good
So I can see my baby when I leave this world.

There is a second and perhaps third verse, but thats the extent of my memory - I can't play the 45 right now. I'll give it a listen tomorrow and correct anything above and add the rest - unless someone beats me to it. That happens alot around here.

According to my research, this was originally done by J. Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers and is on their album of the same name "Last Kiss"; a sample of which can be heard by clicking here

I'm looking for words to a song thats listed on a homemade tape I have as "Twas Pretty to be in Ballinderry". The first three lines of the chorus start out with "Twas pretty to be..." It's a lovely tune. Anybody know this one?

The GOOD NEWS - I found some sheet music of a song I liked as a teenager.

The BAD NEWS - I found it in an antique store!

Tiger - My band "Sundance" in St. Croix USVI 1970's used to also do almost the same medley of car crash songs. Our bass player was paralyzed below the waist from a car crash, and it was his idea to do the medley. (By the way, he has made it big now as a writer - he's Jonathan Nasaw, and he's written "The World on Blood" and "Shadows," among others).
Footnote to this story: our drummer had lost three fingers in a logging accident, and we used to announce "the band's gonna take a break while our drummer changes from sticks to brushes" (he had to tie them to his hand).

I LOVE this song!!! the first I ever heard it was Pearl Jam's cover, have never heard the original.Got here via the 'Leader of the Pack' thread - another song I love....now if only someone good would do a cover of 'Lost Highway'.....
