10 Aug 08 - 01:09 PM (#2409903) Subject: Favourtie Radio Shows - What Are Yours? From: Lizzie Cornish 1 From the US, Canada and/or the UK....or indeed, anywhere else around... Here's a few to be going on with... BBC Radio Shropshire's 'Sunday Folk' with Genevieve Tudor, (Sundays 8-10pm, UK time and on 'Listen Again') Gen has a sparkling sense of humour, sometimes a little naughty as well, and a lovely voice too. She also plays great music and has some smashing interviews.. 'Sunday Folk' BBC Radio Derbyshire's almost legendary 'Folkwaves' ;0), with Lester Simpson and Mick Peat (Mondays 7-9pm UK time, and on 'Listen Again'): Folkwaves Ron Olesko and Bill Hahn's 'Traditions' - Sunday 3-6pm, New Jersey time. NO 'Listen Again' facility, so be sure to tune in live. You press the link below, then press 'WFDU Streaming on the web' and on the next page, go to the 'WarpRadio' picture link..press...and enjoy! (And you will enjoy it! I only discoverd 'Traditions' last week due to Bruce's (Murdoch) new songs being played on there. It's an excellent show!) 'Traditions' BBC Radio Leeds 'Folk & Roots' with The Durbevilles, who are totally wild & whacky, I love 'em!) :0) Sundays 8-9pm, UK time, and on 'Listen Again' too. I can't find a direct page for their show though, so if anyone can help out on that, thanks... BBC Radio Leeds - Folk & Roots with The Durbevilles The Durbervilles - Band Site FolkCast with Ken Nicol and Phil Widdows (monthly show) Folk Cast And thank heavens for 'Listen Again' because three of those shows are on at the same time of a Sunday, so I'd have to have two sets of ear transplants to listen to them all. :0) So, WHO do you listen to? |

10 Aug 08 - 01:40 PM (#2409918) Subject: RE: Favourtie Radio Shows - What Are Yours? From: Lizzie Cornish 1 I'm listening to The Durbevilles show from last week at the moment. Steve Fairholm's on, who runs Otley Festival, The Hardraw Gathering, Otley Folk Festival and...Pickering Festival too, which had to cancel last week, shortly after this programme, due to the weather. That must have been devastating for everyone concerned..so much organinsation. I hope it comes back next year.. Steve also runs Otley Folk Club. (Great place!) Heck, Otley's been going for 17 years..and Duncan's band have been every year. Steve plays in the band. Duncan McFarlane Band Just listening to Duncan now, and memories of Otley Folk Festival come flooding back...seeing them play live in the folk club. It was HEAVING with people in there, and everyone was jigging up and down to the great music. Their music *rocks!* I've never seen a folk venue so packed out, and...there were YOUNG people there too...Shock, horror! Chuckle! ;-) I think he should be entered into his own category in the Radio 2 F&A Awards... Steve Fairholm - Winner of: The Man of Folk Award! ;-) |

Good interviews, good music - unique patter! Though having MC'd for the first time at Sidmouth this year, I have a lot more sympathy and respect for those who can chat effortlessly in front of loads of people... |

From: John on the Sunset Coast If one counts web radio, my favorite is The Western Music Channel at Heartland Public Radio . 100% western music, old to current, and poetry, 100% of the time. HPC also has a country music channel (Nashville type sounds) and a Bluegrass, Gospel show both also 24/7. I don't much care for the country or bluegrass shows, though. |

10 Aug 08 - 05:56 PM (#2410068) Subject: RE: Favourtie Radio Shows - What Are Yours? From: Liz the Squeak Regretably, the only radio I will make an actual concerted effort to listen to is BBC7, specifically, the Goon Shows (I'm far too young to remember the originals) and 'I'm sorry I'll read that again/I haven't a clue'. I'll track down 'The Navy Lark' and 'Just a Minute' on Listen Again, but it's not a big deal if I miss it. Again, I'm far too young to remember the originals and I never remember to listen to the new series if I find them. Otherwise, now we're no longer allowed to listen on earphones at work, radio is just a noise that wakes me up of a morning... LTS |
