This year I have tried to visit a particular small plot of ground in my neighbourhood park as many times as possible, and I have found -- no suprise -- that the layering upon layering of experience, and the subtle shifts in the arrival, prevalence, and disappearance, and new appearance of weeds, grasses, wildflowers, insects, etc., etc., etc., is beyond symphonic in its complexity. This morning, out of nowhere, the late summer jewelweeds arrived, and transformed the space: but it was the fact that I had been over and over the same space so many times that made the sudden efflorescence so amazing. It is a bit like seeing your wife in a brand new dress and her hair up for a party. |
