Barnsley folk club were proud to have Stephen as one of its regulars

he lost his battle with alcoholism although he had been active throughout his life and always singing and playing

Barnsley folk club via Dave and Zoe Bottomley have created a myspace tribute featuring his best know songs and created alovely epitaph

please check this out!

he died justy before Whitby ff and we got to know when we were there, a regular attendee there

Barnsley was the only place where he was able to put down any sort of roots, a lovely man

Stephen Taff Thomas - Myspace

Taken from Stephen's page, these beautiful words about him, by his very good friend, Dave:

"Steve Thomas (some knew him as Taff), died on or around 18th August 2008 alone at home. He wrote hundreds of songs most of which have probably died with him. In May and June 2003 he recorded six songs at my house. He was so nervous he could not manage the multi-track recording so we ended up sticking a microphone half way between his mouth and guitar and off he went. Simple as that. These are the tracks listed here for friends and strangers to enjoy.

Steve was an amazing, puzzling, complex, intelligent, talented, tortured and loveable guy. He was the most courageous and honest guy I knew. He was an alcoholic and an insomniac but he was totally reliable and could always be counted on if he had said he would do something. He loved life and his fellow earth dwellers (except wasps and fruit flies). The last time I saw Steve I walked with him through Barnsley. It seemed as if every other person we passed knew Steve and stopped to say hello. I can't even start to say how much I will miss him and I know others will too. I hope the people who messed up his life rot in hell. His friend Dave Bottomley "

He made great music..and sounded a pretty lovely fella, too.

It's nice to be missed...even though it hurts those left behind. It means you got it right, while you were here, even if you felt you never did.

That page is a lovely tribute to him.
