Not---- Old Time Riverman Go...but an album marked "jh" and that is all on Rhapsody. John Hartford is singing with I think a woman; but may be him in falseto voice, hard to tell. Can't find anything else on the album, jut labeled as "jh", says track 12, but can't find the album or any other "tracks" It is a neat song.

Its Bill Monroe, and a Bill Monroe song........

Old Riverman

Old riverman's lonesome, old riverman's blue,
He's working on the river, with the riverman blues.
On the Lakeview Highway, that's the riverman's home
And home is where the heart is, and he's all alone.

But when he hears that steamboat whistle blow,
He can feel that river in his soul.
Old riverman's lonesome, old riverman's blue,
He's working on the river, with the riverman blues.

Three thousand miles old riverman goes.
Down the Mississippi River, amd the Ohio,
The Missouri and the Cumberland, Tennessee and Illinois,
Monongahela, Allegheny, and the big Conoy.

But you just watch that old riverman's eyes,
He always knows when the river's going to rise.
Old riverman's lonesome, old riverman's blue,
He's working on the river, with the riverman blues.
He's working on the river, with the riverman blues.

Thanks Spaw....that's the one...I have since found it by "The Nashville Bluegrass Band" Sugar Hill Label, 10 August 2004.
The "jh" album, I still can find only the one song with John Hartford.

That Nashville Bluegrass Band CD is called "20 years blues". It's one of the better bluegrass recordings out there. It's worth owning.

According to Repertoire.BMI.com, OLD RIVERMAN was written by John Hartford and Bill Monroe.

I listened to a sound sample on Allmusic.com. The recording you describe seems to come from the Bill Monroe album "My Last Days on Earth," Bear Family CD 16637, 2007. The dominant voice is John Hartford. I suppose the falsetto harmony is Bill Monroe, but I'm not certain. I can also hear a guitar, mandolin, and fiddle.

Gracenote.com also lists recordings by:
The Nashville Bluegrass Band on "Twenty Year Blues"
Orville Johnson on "Slide & Joy"
Wild Rose Xpress on "Wild Rose"
