found this surfing...it 'may' fill a void for some of you who look for a way to play & print music in ABC format..There is lots of technical discussion which is beyond me..

Bill, I believe that we're talking about a fairly specialised activity here. The Nottingham database notated their tunes in a special notation format - as far as I can tell it's a bit of a cross between ABC, Songwright and ?. From my own perspective I had intended to leave the experts to convert this database to ABC, but because you've raised the topic I'll have a new look at the Nottingham database index and see how fertile it looks from a song perspective. The database has its own URL which I have squirreled away somewhere. I'm sure that Bruce O. would have very extensive knowledge on this subject.

Regards
John

There is some software available on the Nottingham database website. See bottom of homepage there. Just click below if I don't foul it up.

Having had another look I believe that the entire Nottingham database has now been converted to ABC, which seems to have become the standard for a lot of dance tune collections. I was very interested that Mark Knopfler's beautiful theme music to the movie CAL was in the Nottingham stuff. With an initial rush of blood I did contemplate converting it to ABC, but quickly found it in the ABC Tune Index and was spared the bother.

This is a great piece of music, I hope that at least a few people enjoy it.

Regards
John
