Subject: Les Barker - Heart Op
From: GUEST,Cally

Les has had his bypass operation today in Liverpool and everything has gone as planned. No problems and he should be able to go to the ward from Intensive Care tomorrow.

It says in the instruction manual he must be strictly supervised when he is discharged.

I too wish him the best of speedy recoveries and wonder if, as he'll be having time on his hands, he's prepared to give consideration to situations which might be troubling us, and offer advice?

Personally, I am perplexed by something that arose in Stackpole recently. I got into a conversation with women sitting next to me as we awaited Les' appearance on the stage at the Stackpole Centre. It's usually an oudoor pursuit centre which might explain the humungous moth stretching it's wings over the stage. (We're talkin' Japanese B-movie sci-fi here. It was Big.) Anyway, we got to wondering why many moths come out at night, why do they then make immediately for your lightbulbs? We hypothesized that, when God was handing out stuff in the Creation (nod in the direction of Ms Palin), maybe the moths were goofing off so they drew permanent night shift.

Or not.

Les obviously knows a lot about fireflies and such, so maybe he can offer advice on moths?

Perhaps others here have conundrums which are gnawing at the back of their brain boxes which Les might sort out while he's 'at leisure'.

Many thanks,

sian

One theory is that moths navigate by moonlight, and electric lights confuse them. There's more to it than that (it's to do with phototaxis), but, basically, that's it.

Once he's discharged, Les will be recuperating with friends in south Wales. He'll be well looked after.

All the best, Les.

Today's update

Les is fully awake and all is well but he is very tired. He has been moved from intensive care to Ward D Cardiothoracic Unit Bromsgrove Hospital

If you want to send greetings it is more effective to send an e message on this web page
http://www.rlbuht.nhs.uk/for_patients/In_patient_greeting_service.asp

as he will be discharged at the weekend and things go astray when forwarded.

The answer to question 4 is 61
