From: GUEST,Fairly new folkie Could anyone recommend some folk sessions in Hull, Beverley or thereabouts? singarounds or instrumentalists, I don't mind. I've been a folk fan for years but don't know much about the 'scene' as it where - i've never been that confident with performing in public, but want to have a try. I was put off years ago by some Irish sessions in Hull - they were really cliquey and didn't seem to like us English very much! It scared me off somewhat! |

From: Anglogeezer Hi, Fairly New Folkie I've just read your post again, you say "I've never been that confident with performing in public, but want to have a try." The easy session at the Tiger - tomorrow - may be a good place to start. Unlike full on sessions where, if you don't know the tunes they play you just get left on the sidelines, the intention of the session is to allow beginners and newcomers to folk music to get a feel for the music and for playing in a group. We have our own set of tunes printed up to play from and we practice from that for the first half of the evening then for the second half we go round the room playing tunes or singing If you find it doesn't suit you, you could always take a stroll down to the Sun Inn!! That way you sample two sessions in one night!! regards Jake |

Both are pretty laid back affairs, mostly tunes played but it would be nice if someone put a few songs in the mix. The Tuesday night lot are friendly too, if you can get in the door!!! |
