BS: Election day problems to come

Election day in poor neighborhoods means long lines and turning people away at night. There will be excuses and inquiries

How bad will it get this November?

I suspect it will be at its worst. The excuses are already being chanted "It will be difficult to accomodate the biggest turn out in election history".

Eyewitnesses should chronicle thier experience here if possible

The greatest problem on this election Day, will be the piss poor candidates we have to chose from!

I've given that some thought, too, Donual... Turnout is most likely going to be very high which means that folks in urban areas are going to be the ones with the most difficulties... Rural precincts, like the one where I vote, are nothin'... In and out ion lass than 15 minutes... Big cities??? A couple hours in some will be the norm...

Throw in Diebold and yet another perfect storm for the Repubs...

This is what "certain" people have done before:

Democratic districts have their voting machines shipped to other districts leaving a shortage of machines and long lines that extend for more than 6 hours while the polls close and turn large crowds away.

What can be done?
Volunteer to be a poll administrator.(most are old feeble and easily manipulated)
Vote as EARLY AS POSSIBLE
investigate machine availability and correct problems by October.
Get court injunctions to prevent police from turning away lawful citizens who simply want to legally vote.

any other ideas?

Bobert DIEBOLD does not exist

They changed their name and corporate certificate to Premiere Voting Systems.
(how republican is that?)

The machines have the old Diebold logo.

Mudcat seems to be well on its way to having several thousand election related threads.   So why not commit to starting several new ones each day? Donuel, you may be ahead of that pace.

South Park put it best - one character refused to vote because he claimed that he only had a choice between a douche and a turd...

Hopefully, they can keep illegal aliens from voting.

Ohio is encouraging people to use write in ballots and has eliminated the need for OutOf State On Election Day to qualify. They hope to get one third of eligible voters to do that but still expect hour long lines at the polls. The election board isn't sure it will need more machines so they don't want to invest in them. Sounds fishy to me.

YEah.........karen and I got ours today. I dunno' yet, too early to tell.....The governor here, Ted Strickland, a Democrat, is hot on the election problems and he's a strong Obama supporter and at one time a possible VP choice. We'll see what happens. The absentee ain't a bad thing maybe.......

I believe all counties in Florida have early voting for a period of two or three weeks before the actual election date. (We definitely have it in our county and the one next door, and I think it's statewide.) All you have to do is go to one of the early voting sites (usually a courthouse, tax office etc.) and vote as usual.

I don't take advantage of early voting myself since I live in a small rural precinct and have never encountered a line on election day, but I'd certainly avail myself of it if I were a city dweller.

But better yet, let's hear some more conspiracy theories on how McCain/Palin are going to "steal" the election.

I see the excuses are already starting to come out.

LOL.....Hey Bee-Dub, I know what you mean. We'll go down and vote as usual. The Village has only one precinct and there are fewer people vote here in a full day than vote in some city precincts in an hour!

Hell, we have two precincts vote at the Library -- one at the North End and one at the South End.

I'm going to vote early and often.

Hub:

No excuses will be needed, unless the same double-faced, two-timing snake-in-the-grass manipulations that ruined the quality of the 2000 qnd 2004 contests are again resorted to.

Your calling them "excuses" does nothing to change the facts of shady electoral processes, disenfranchisement and other mean and dirty tricks.

I always find it saddening when someone wants to win the elections so badly they are willing to despoil the process to do so. It really demonstrates a low level of ethics and a deep disregard for the nation of law.

As long as you feel that way when the Chicago Machine is the one with the graveyard vote and the questionable ballots...
