BS: What should I have for dessert tonight?

What's your favorite? Mine usually involves something made with chocolate and/or coffee ice cream.

But I had a small bite of someone's birthday cake for lunch, so I'm not sure what to do for dinner. Should I go health-conscious and have some sort of whole wheat slat of bread slathered with rhubarb and olive oil? Nibble on some nuts dressed with romaine lettuce?
Skip it all together?

Or just lunge for the Oreos dunked in whole milk?

Had a wonderful half of a Canary melon.
Winter is a comin' on, so they won't be in the market much longer.

Cranberry apple nut crumble pie topped with vanilla ice cream for a late snack tonight.

Ya know, I like chocolate, but it's not my favorite sweet, nor my favorite dessert.

I'm really a sucker for caramel. And I love a good key lime pie (or a good -- hey, they're all good! -- pecan pie; come to think of it, a nice fruit pie with ice cream, or apple pie with blue cheese).

Carrot cake with lots of cream cheese frosting.

Flan, creme brulee...stuff like that -- yum!

For a light dessert, espresso Romano -- rub a wineglass rim with lemon peel and dip in sugar, then pour in dark rum and espresso. THAT'S a great ending to a meal!

We have some left-over birthday apple pie here at the house. It also makes a very nice breakfast. :)

A big fluffy waffle with a couple of scoops of good vanilla ice cream topped with chopped walnuts and hot maple* syrup.

* (Being a southerner, I usually prefer cane syrup over maple, but not for this particular dish.)

Root beer float.

Ideally, made with Blue Bell Natural Vanilla Bean ice cream ~ lots of it ~ and any decent root beer. (I am a sucker for gourmet/microbrewry rootbeer/birchbeer/sarsaparilla, but usually resist the temptation to pay the extra freight).

You'd get arrested over here if you had Brownies for dessert. So it's home made raspberry and mango ice cream.

Chocolate peanut butter cake with butter cream frosting (this is a no-egg recipe).
French vanilla ice cream drizzled with creme de menthe and creme de cacao.

I'm a savoury fan, not a sweet-tooth so my desserts are fruit - especially a fresh date or 2, yummy on their own, but sheer luxury covered with double cream, yum.

or strawberries, sultanas, fresh grapes, ripe pineapple, custard apples, kiwi fruit ...

Several weeks back I volunteered at a conference where the dinner finished with a small portion of rice pudding - barely sugared, with a slice of cooked apple & a few nuts on top - YUM! The organisers had over-catered so while we were cleaning up we had a few more, bliss! Then the next morning the remaining puds were brought out for morning tea, yum yum yum

One of our local vegan takeaway food shops makes a delicious black rice pud, with a layer of barely sugared white custard on top. fortunately I don't often pass their shop, or I'd be living on this heavenly pud.

I had blackberries and raspberries, covered over with pear and sloe jam (sorry, jelly), topped with Tuesdays failed wholewheat muffins crumbled up and baked in the oven til the crumbs went crispy.

Not really a queen of puddings (summer fruits with bread) or a fruit crumble (wrong sort of crumbs) so I called it Liberace - a crumbly old queen.

Served warm with creme fraiche, it were bloody lovely. (When it cools the jam should make it stick together)

Ha! Liz -- great name for what sounds quite tasty.

Thanks for a lovely laugh first thing in the morning.

BTW, when I was 3 and 4 years old, my family lived a block away from Liberace's mother's home in West Milwaukee, Wisconsin -- his childhood home.

Humble sweeties are my favourite.

Biscuit based strawberry shortcake with real NS fresh strawberries and real whipped cream.

Apple upside down biscuit.

Home made date squares.

Plain dates with old cheddar cheese.

My mother's cookie base/coconut, chopped maraschino cherries, sweetened condensed milk/chocolate icing squares!

But I wouldn't turn down cheesecake or cream puffs or napoleons...

We still have some of the pumpkin raisin bars with maple frosting made the other day, so that's what we'll be having.

Make my own pumpkin puree too......we can't buy tinned in Oz. It's very easy; just cut a large piece of pumpkin into chunks, leaving skin on, and roast in over for half an hour or so. No seasoning, no oil, no nothing, just unadulterated pumpkin. When it's soft and has cooled, skin is peeled off and flesh is pureed in food processor.

Most recipes seem to call for 1 cup puumkin so I measure 1 cup at a time into self-closing sandwich bags, squish out as much air as possible, and freeze. The air-squishing-out flattens the pumpkin, which makes it freeze quickly and also thaw quickly.

While visiting our Canaussian son in Canada we have tried pumpkin spice everything, and liked it, so I make it at home.

hmmmm, I haven't had fresh dates for a long time, nor have I had the black rice pudding, must add them to the next grocery list.

dinner last night was finished by the last of the cherries I froze a few months ago at the end of cherry season.

Spotted Dick - a real Spotted Dick made with suet and sultanas, not a sultana sponge cake - with a n extremely large dollop of Bonzo’s spoon-standing-up custard. A couple of spoonfuls of brandy butter on top wouldn’t hurt either.

Sandra, I have the same tastes as you it seems. I know I harp on about crumpets, but to counteract the calories, I usually have fruit after my main meal. Those enormous, sweet and delicious black cherries are in season here just now. I have half a dozen for dessert. Also my neighbour gave us some of those 'donut nectarines' (sort of flat things, very nice)
Husband, sadly, adores dates (medjoul ones) and will eat a whole packet in one go. After a Fiery Hot Horror curry (Scotch bonnet chillies and God knows what else) the effect a bit later is ...er... explosive and rather smelly.
