The Key Fiddle or Bowed Hurdy Gurdy as it is also called,
can be found on the Swedish postage stamps (75 Ore) and
the currency (50 Kronor note) as well as at many folk
festivals, concerts, spelmanslag, stemmor, etc.

see www.nyckelharpa.org, www.nyckelharpa.net, www.nyckelharpa.com
for more info.

there are other threads on this..but i was inspired to start this one
in response to a "national instrument of Enland" thread.

Check out the very good Nyckelharpa orchestra and Olav Johansson CDs on Northside. Great sounding instrument beautifully played. I think there are sound files on the Northside website.

Swedish nyckelharpa player Johan Hedin is to appear at Islington Folk Club on November 13 and is also doing workshops in nyckelharpa and Swedish fiddle over the subsequent weekend, also in London.

I've booked my train tickets already

Cheers

Viki Swan plays one site here

If you don't know what they look like. We have the leader of our "Spelmännslag" = Team, playing one here

We have our 75th anniversary this year with a concert on November 8th.

You should check out the Swedish ahref="http://www.sackpips.smedja.com/">bagpipe as well

For fans of weird news, there is a website called fark.com.
Today they have discovered the nyckelharpa, and had members have fun
with photoshopping a picture of an old harpa.
Here is a link, if you are interested:
