It is in the BS section, Sorcha, why so rude?

Ron, the correct "what" for that surname?

Not trying to be rude, Kat....but what a strange question for THIS place....no intro, background, no explanation of 'what'...just weird is all.

It derived from the name SCIME. Mr Google will be helpful to you.

there was an old Mutt & Jeff cartoon...Li'l Jeff is on his hands & knees under a streetlight, and Mutt asks him what he is doing...Jeff says "I lost a silver dollar" Mutt gets down and helps him look for awhile...then asks "Are you sure you lost it around here?" ..."No", says Jeff,"I lost it down in the middle of the block"..."Then why are you looking HERE?", asks Mutt...."Oh", says Jeff, the light's much better here."

:-) Bill.

It doesn't seem any more odd to me, here, than a myriad of other oddball questions we've had over the year.

Sorcha, it *reads* as kind of rude, imo. Maybe it doesn't matter...doesn't look as though he's coming back.

I always thought Costello should be an Italian name ... not Irish.

Just thought I'd throw this one in.

Since I didn't intend for it to be rude, I'll apologize in case he does come back! Sorry!

I thought the request not only weird, but incomprehensible as well. Which of course makes it doubly weird!

Me too. And "Cusack" sounds like it should be eastern-Eupropean, but it's Irish as well. What about "Prendergast" ~ more Germanic than Celtic, seems to me. (Of course, it's of Norman-French origin if I'm not mistaken.)

And what about "ffrench" with its double-lower-case initial letter(s): Martian?
