The bums have tiptoed out the back door and circled around to the front and started yelling, "Throw the bums out!" (more here...) |

Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Ron Davies Not that Garrison has ever been known to tell stories---but is there any confirmation of claiming a refueling stop in Ireland as a 4th country visited? It's a great story--even better if it's true. |
19 Sep 08 - 09:42 PM (#2445581) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Riginslinger Of course, we're talking about an individual who help run Jesse Ventura out of Minnesota, one of the few honest politicians in memory. |
19 Sep 08 - 10:05 PM (#2445595) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Ron Davies Gee, Rig, I wonder if your liking for Ventura has to do with his remark that organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people. Of course not; I'm sure your support is just because he's such an honest person and excellent governor. Who couldn't stand the spotlight. If you really think Keillor was even partly responsible for driving Ventura out of office, I'm sure Garrison would be flattered. In fact, he was probably sorry when Ventura left---he was a wonderful target for satire. You should hear the PHC ad for duct tape-- at the time of the Y2K brouhaha-- done by Ventura. "Anything to help out public radio"....( When the power grid goes dark) you'll see a lot of weak-minded people who are part of organized religion coming towards your house with torches and pitchforks."-- "...The only title card I need is this 357 Magnum taped to my chest with duct tape. It says that this Porsche is mine."... "Was that (the ad) OK?--I could take my shirt off--but that would be extra". But your theory shows your somewhat less than perfect grasp of politics--(to put it mildly.) Unsurprisingly. |

20 Sep 08 - 01:12 AM (#2445683) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: katlaughing It's true, Ron. It's been in a few of the media: Puffing up her foreign affairs credentials by claiming she'd been to Ireland and met with the troops in Iraq in 2007. The Ireland visit was an airline refueling stop and Palin never got further than the Iraq-Kuwait border, the Boston Globe reported. Another good one, BK. Thanks! |

Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Riginslinger "Gee, Rig, I wonder if your liking for Ventura has to do with his remark that organized religion is a sham and a crutch for weak-minded people." Of course it does. An honest and well informed public figure is hard to come by in this country. Jesse Ventrua is a national treasure and should be treated as such. |
20 Sep 08 - 12:13 PM (#2445955) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Bill D Oh, he's honest, alright! Well-informed is another matter. Minnesota barely got him out in time. Now, I sorta liked Jessee, but as an executive, he made a good...ummm...pro wrestler. I always wanted to promote a match between Jesse and Arnold. |
20 Sep 08 - 12:31 PM (#2445968) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Donuel Jesse is strong and told the truth as he knows it, but he did not have the power to speak truth to power or about power. At least he showed the people he felt the way they did. REp strategy to me is 1 Attack the oppenents strength 2 accuse the opponent of our weakness 3 subvert religion and patriotism to our side alone. |

23 Feb 09 - 11:15 PM (#2574335) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Amos Garrison Keillor, it seems, has apologized for some of his remarks: "I recall having once referred to Republicans as "hairy-backed swamp developers, fundamentalist bullies, freelance racists, hobby cops, sweatshop tycoons, line jumpers, marsupial moms and aluminum-siding salesmen, misanthropic frat boys, ninja dittoheads, shrieking midgets, tax cheats, cheese merchants, cat stranglers, pill pushers, nihilists in golf pants, backed-up Baptists, the grand pooh-bahs of Percodan, mouth breathers, testosterone junkies and brownshirts in pinstripes." I look at those words now, and "cat stranglers" seems excessive to me. The number of cat stranglers in the ranks of the Republican Party is surely low, and that reference was hurtful to Republicans and to cat owners. I feel sheepish about it." - Garrison Keillor Read the whole article here http://www.skeptically.org/curpol/id9.html |

24 Feb 09 - 11:47 PM (#2575286) Subject: RE: BS: G. Keillor on latest Republican strategy From: Q (Frank Staplin) Keillor is a fair MC and gets some good acts on his broadcasts (once in a while I hear one on PBS Sunday mornings). Stories- he tells a lot of them, and as long as they are about imaginary places they are amusing. He falls flat when he goes on about serious matters. |
