BS: Antiques roadshow tonight mudcatter?

There was a lady on said show tonight with a banjo (not a good start) she said that her sons play, she does not, but she is involved in the folk world on the sing side. The show was from Chester, is she "one of us"?

So she's planning on selling the sons' banjo? Imagine!

I will or could be for the better, it could save them from a life of abuse and maybe just maybe in a few years they will be able to make friends with ordinary people.

I know it's a terrible thing to admit, and just goes to show I was brought up wrong, but.... I really like me some good banjo-playin'...

(Runs off to change identity and move to different country...)

Looks that way, need to replace the bloody thing, so much rubbish under the keys, some work when they want too! Probably enough rolling backy under them to keep me going for a week!

Folky bumper sticker:

Warning! I have a banjo and I know how to use it!

:-)

Duckingi for cover - whilst admitting that I've heard some very good banjo playing and really enjoyed it.

BTW the Antiques Roadshow is where people take their treasured items to be evaluated, both in the historic sense and the monetary sense. It isn't a treasures-for-sale show. I hope that reassures meself, as in the person who posted second, not "meself" as in me. Just to try to clarify, or am I just confusing meself and others.

I am very fond of good banjo playing - I don't understand this ridiculous prejudice against the instrument. I suspect that the banjophobes are really rock fans who don't really like folk music and wish that it was more like rock (their imaginations don't stretch any further).

Did anyone notice that the banjo on the Antiques Roadshow didn't have any frets?

Why fret over a banjo?

For good banjo playin' ; listen here . Scroll down and have a listen to 'Blackberry Blossom'. The banjo is home-made by the player, Ralph Crossley.

Antiques Roadshow is shown on Monday nights here, not Sundays. I had assumed it was the same across the country.

Oh, wait. Skipy, are you from t'other side? That might explain the discrepancy.

"Here" in Ebbie's post being the U.S. and the American version of the program. But down here in Dallas, anyway, we've seen the British version also.

I will admit to wishing now and again that I could play one. Bill Sables bet a year ago that he could teach me - he still hasn't tried!

The banjo last night was a late 19th century English (Newcastle Upon Tyne) 5 string, one of only a relatively few made, and it was sorta pretty, as banjos go....

(Bill's got a VERY sweet one, with flowers up the neck)
