"Simon Nield, singer, songwriter, guitarist, hydrogeologist and environmental campaigner, passed away in the company of friends and family on Friday 19th September. Simon had been gravely ill for several months, and spent the last few weeks in palliative care. He leaves behind an extraordinary body of songs and tunes, three beautiful CDs, and a wealth of inspiration and influence. His life touched many of us and his passing leaves us all much poorer. Our thoughts are with Simon's wife Lindy and daughter Ella. The funeral will be at Fremantle Cemetery at 2 pm on Friday Sept 26th. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Australian Bush Heritage fund, and can be made via the website at http://www.bushheritage.org.au As a measure of what we've lost, Simon's MySpace site Simon Nield Myspace carries a beautiful interview on local ABC radio from a few weeks ago (see "Geraldine Mellet Interview"). Let's keep his legacy alive by singing his songs. Steve Barnes" A great loss. Bugsy |

Bugsy, any word of a musical tribute, or something of that nature? Regards, Quokka |

This function will provide an opportunity for all us to celebrate Simon's life. The Camelot Choir will be bringing food to cater, however there will undoubtedly be a lot of folk attending and friends who would like to bring a plate are most welcome to contribute. We will also be providing a big scrapbook with scissors and glue stick and are asking Simon's friends to bring along pictures and anecdotes/stories and reflections. This book will be given to Lindy and Ella. So please, reflect upon your relationship with Simon and then go through your picture files and print some out, think about the funny stories, the dodgy gigs, the quiet conversations... and bring them along to contribute to Lindy and Ella's book. Please distribute this message to Simon's friends, the more people who can contribute, the more wonderful it will be. With love and thanks Jenny Simpson" |

Really he just loved to play music, create music and play it with his friends. Fortunately so many amazing musicians had become his friends and his awe grew to friendship. He was so lovely. Even when he was being annoyingly pedantic. |
