Just watched it.
I heard yesterday that the local priest is preaching against Obama from the pulpit. I didn't want to believe it.
life - and what about the death penalty?

Video--very well done--to tug on the heart strings expressing the Catholic position on the coming US election. It will be effective and take votes away from the Democrats. I think.

Another religion heard from and expressing its particular view. Basically, family values, anti-abortion and the last statement,

"Vote Your Conscience"

after informing Catholics what their conscience is..

I think they're forgetting that "Life" and "Family" both require an earth that supports life and enough money to put food on the table.

Full propaganda urging all Catholics to "vote their conscience," i.e. "for Life" etc. The pull out all of the stops with images of fetuses(sp), pollution, comparing how important other issues may be, but life being the most important, along with keeping marriage free from gays, etc. etc. Cynical use of JFK and MLKJr. images, football teams huddled in prayer, flag-waving, etc. It is sickening.

I think their not-for-profit status should be pulled for interfering with poltiical processes. Talk about remedying the budget shortfall!!

Did you catch their depiction of Jews and how they were called the "others"

I am still awaiting the Republican machine to smear Barack's wife with abortion accusations.

I know a lotta Catholics. They tend to "herd" about as well as Mudcatters, so before everyone gets their panties in a wad, remember our own Joe Offer. When was the last time you tried to tell HIM what to do?

PS-- that line in the video, "Human Life is Paramount"?

Be sure to ask your Catholic friends (indeed any Christian friends) if that's how they remember God's Word. He put Himself first, as I recall.

That whole video is founded on the spiritual error of pride-- putting Self first.

There are one helluva lotta Catholics in the US. Of course, that's the Church's counting. I don't suspect that all 55 million or so actually are involved with their religion.

They were very clever in not stating what they ended up stating by not stating. That was nicely summed up in Kat's post. I thought it was brilliant propaganda. I don't like it, but that don't stop it from being effective with lots of folks.

I don't believe the church has near the influence it had before all this pedophile stuff came to light. I also believe that MOST Catholics decide for themselves what's best for them.

My goodness! How Wagnerian.

I know a lot of Catholics here in Canada, and I haven't noticed that they tend to vote as a bloc or that they tend much to back neo-conservative policies and parties.

That's about as subtle as the parish priests, during the Duplessis era in Quebec, preaching from the pulpit that if you didn't vote for him you would end up in hell.

The "paramount" issue is whether the anti-Choice people obscure the real issues with this preaching.

Great theme music....anyone recognise it?

At times you have to wonder if the French have it right - a totally secular state. Heavy handed attempts to 'spiritualise' politics could have very bad spin-offs for Catholics. If they did manage to mobilise a Catholic vote to back the Republican candidate, I think an awful lot of people would be full of resentment.

Perhaps I got it wrong - I thought the Irish vote had a bit of tradition with the Democrat party.

I, too, thought it was a powerful video. It gave me goosebumps and I'm not Catholic.

Well done, and very creepy.

Are we going back to the days when the Parish priest told you how to vote?

The video is clearly an effort by the Fidelis Center for Law and Policy, a 501-c-3 Federal non-profit organization to influence Catholics to vote their Presidential preference on the issue of abortion. It's unclear from the website who runs this organization, whether they are actually Catholics or simply Republican operatives. The implication is that it's a Catholic organization primarily addressing Catholics.

I would certainly consider this effort "partisan" and a violation of their charter but they probably have researched every work they've used and can make a case that they are simply raising policy questions and providing information.

I wonder what God would think, assuming that she is following this election.
