27 Sep 08 - 02:14 PM (#2451700) Subject: HOW TO PLAY THE ENGLISH MELODEON John K From: Les in Chorlton I have just been watching this brilliant John Kirkpatrick DVD. I know that some of John's CDs / DVDs come with a tune book. Has anybody discovered a tune book that goes with "How to play.........." ? I have searched his website but cannot find one. 28 Sep 08 - 04:32 AM (#2451989) Subject: RE: How to Play the English Melodeon (John K) From: The Borchester Echo John K once sold me a cut price job lot of his CDs Orlando's Return/i> and Garrick's Delight together with his tune book English Choice. These comprise 101 traditional dance tunes notated for any melody instrument. So I imagine they'd be a good accompaniment to the DVD. Obtainable direct from him or via Mally. |

If I had the dots to the DVD I could put him off by playing the tune on the tenor banjo at the same time. Cheers L in C |

I have e-mailed himself - he replied immediately to say he would reply in more detail in a few months!Fair enoughski, he has tunes to play to people more often than I do. See you Wednesday? 29 Sep 08 - 05:14 AM (#2452615) Subject: RE: How to Play the English Melodeon (John K) From: Les in Chorlton I don't believe this but John has just replied, I feel sure he won't mind me quoting part of his reply: "I'm glad you're finding the DVD useful. I'm afraid there is no tunebook to go with it, as part of the point in doing it the way it is is to encourage players to learn in a different way. Good luck! John Kirkpatrick" So search over, now where is the dreaded banjo? Cheers L in C |

29 Sep 08 - 05:50 AM (#2452628) Subject: RE: How to Play the English Melodeon (John K) From: Bernard Well, there may not be a tunebook to go with it, Les, but Lionel Bacon's 'Black Book' available from the Morris Ring shop for around 20 squids has enough stuff to keep you going for years, and many of the tunes will be in it. Email me if you need more details... Pity you weren't at Lymm Folk Club the other week, where you could have asked JK in person... with yours truly doing support! |
