You can listen to two minute clips of the songs on my "War Mongerin' Man" cd at CD Baby. Or listen to complete versions of the songs on "War Mongerin' Man" at the EZ Folk website. Enjoy! |

01 Oct 08 - 02:08 AM (#2454483) Subject: RE: Political Music 2008 From: Genie Another good 'un, Reggie! *g* Oh, and as much I realize a Palin/McCain administration [sic] would be great fodder, I'd forgo a modicum of that political Miles magic to have the slightly less humorous Obama/Biden team win. (Of course, if Joe Biden keeps saying stuff like that President FDR, when the stock market crashed in 1929, went on TV to speak to the American people and reassure them ..., well, you just might get a few comic songs from him, too.) 02 Oct 08 - 05:49 PM (#2455912) Subject: RE: Political Music 2008 From: reggie miles Thanks Genie, I forgot about that Biden slip and you're right, Palin seems like a natural target. Once the bright lights start shining it's an easy thing to slip up. I've done it countless times while on stage. There will probably be a treasure trove of new stuff to write about whoever gets elected. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Thanks Sandra, My frequent visits with everyone posting here at The Mudcat Cafe have been the inspiration for more than one of my songs. I'll keep plunkin' away at my keyboard, one finger at a time, and scratchin' down anything and everything that comes to mind, until I can make sense of it all or give up tryin' to answer this riddle with a little rhythm and rhyme. 06 Oct 08 - 07:54 PM (#2458826) Subject: RE: Political Music 2008 From: reggie miles Here's a heads up. I was singing on the street at our Pike Place Market in Seattle last Friday, when I was approached by the acting Market Master. She asked if I would allow a film crew to use some of my music for a commercial that they were going to produce. The project was to raise awareness to the voters in the area about a proposition measure on this year's ballot. The measure will help to find funds for much needed repair and restoration of the Market's substructures. I agreed to help and offered my bottleneck slide blues version of "51 Highway Blues" and my musical saw version of "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". After they had finished filming, I continued to busk, offering my latest song, "Wall Street Bail Out Blues". The crew liked the lyrics and reaction that listeners gave me so much that they offered to film that song and place it on YouTube for me. I'll post a link to it as soon as they've got it posted there. |
14 Oct 08 - 10:21 PM (#2465878) Subject: RE: Political Music 2008 From: reggie miles I've tweaked the lyrics a little since the filming of this song (about a week ago) on October 3rd but it's still essentially the same. Though the rendition on the video is a little primitive, due to the fact that I had only played the song a few times before the crew captured this take, I think the spirit of this video is strong enough to convey the message and intent. I'm happy to have it out there for everyone to hear. I hope you'll enjoy this video of me playing my newest song, "Wall Street Bail Out Blues", on the street Pike Place Market in Seattle. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCdWEHqZJuw Reg |

10 Nov 08 - 01:27 PM (#2490013) Subject: Lyr Add: A TRUER SHADE OF BLUE From: Acorn4 Don't often delve into the murky world of politics, but penned this one of the advent of New Labour. To the tune of the old Procul Harem classic:- A TRUER SHADE OF BLUE 1.When you were young and in your prime, Your belly full of rage and fire, You stood out with Totsky on the barricades, That little red book there to inspire you, And that poster of Che Guevara It hung on your wall for years. You thought you were going to change the world, And watch it all come crashing down around their ears. But now the years have flown by so quickly And it's strange but oh so true That flag once red with the workers' blood Now flies a truer shade of blue. 2. You were the young icon of the left, You argued deep, deep into the night, No clouds could block your vision, The truth was there is black and white, And you wore Fidel Castro's cap, It sat squarely on your head, Now you speak in hushed voices Along the corridors of power, Some day you'll be a minister it's said, And now Maggie Thatcher's knickers, They seem the perfect fit for you, As they hang out on your washing line, In a truer shade of blue. 3. You've gotten power, you've gotten image, You've protected and survived alright, But now you worry about those demons, And things that might go bump in the night. You want a good school for your children, You want investments that will grow; As you drifted to the middle of the road And onto the other side, Safe within that comfort zone.. And as you find yourself saying Tht things you said you'd never say, Just like your parents used to do, And the political litmus paper Has turned a truer shade of blue. 4. Your feet are firmly on the ladder, You're a winner in the game You joined the congregation, You even sing in the choir, That revolution never came anyway, But sometimes through the opium you catch A glimpse in the mirror, Reflecting those long gone far off days. You say it was part of a natural progression All just a passing phase.. And as you contemplate power dressing For that important interview, Glad that you've been "born again" In a truer shade of blue. With apologies to anyone who was eating while reading about Mrs T's knickers and a reminder to those in the US that the political colours are reversed over here , blue meaning the "right wing" party. |
