After the success of the 2007 Winter Sing at the Bull Hotel, Barton-le-Clay, we will again be holding this event at the same venue over the weekend of 15th and 16th November.

All singers, musicians, storytellers and poets are welcome, admission is eminently reasonable (£12 for the weekend, including Saturday evening concert & buffet)and more details may be found on my website

Come and meet old friends and make some new ones!

Alan

Hi Alan

Wishing you success for this event. Sadly it is a bit too far for us to travel especially at a time of year when my partner's weekends are taken up with marking papers.

In other news, I may make it to Writtle this Thursday. Yippee!

Chelmsford - it's the new home of Blackmore Folk Club

It's a bit of a hike from Barton and Hoddesdon is about midway between the two.

My carbon footprint is at least a size 12!

Yay! Looking forward to hearing (and seeing!) you there, Hils! Bring the Crabbie's*!!! ;-)

*Note for casual passers-by: no, I'm not referring to curmudgeonly folkies. It's a very fine brand of green ginger wine. Yum!

Concert now fully firmed up (which is more than could be said of yours truly!). Revised poster now on website.
Line-up now includes Lynne Heraud, Hamish Currie and (late arrival at the Barton ball) the one and only Al Neville, all doing 30-minute spots, with the other artistes doing 15-20 minutes each and myself waffling on between them. I do like interstices, don't you?

Tell your friends. If you have no friends, make some. If you can't be bothered to make any, bring your enemies. If you have no enemies, come alone and we'll see what we can do for you!

Cheers

Alan

Regretfully I'll be unable to bring along any chocolate balls or Crabbies on this occasion as we won't be stopping over in the car park, but not sure that the pub could cope with these additions anyway!

Whew, that's a relief Guru

There's up to 1000 calories in each of your chocolate balls

Normally, I have to diet for months after the treat

Only 10 days to go

I'm off to folk clubs tonight to spread the word

Hi Alan - I saw Rachel last night and she started asking questions about the weekend

Blimey - I was taken aback

How many for the buffet? - I said it must be at least 30?

And what time for the buffet - I thought it was about 6pm?

Still didn't find out the cost?

Let us know if anything else

I've been to King Harry (St Albans), Bedford, Baldock, Redbourn, Totternhoe and the Globe (Dunstable) in the last week spreading the word - night in tonight changing me strings

Logged in in thr laptop, hence no cookie.

Musically a super weekend, I think that I can say without fear of contraception that a good time was had by all!

Thanks to all who turned out, sang and played and also to those who just audienced.

Turnout was 25% down on last year - possibly due in part to a combination of the credit crunch (I know of three people who said that they would like to be there but had to work) and the Sunday weather.

I have only just read Ross' post of Thursday about Rachel, which explained a couple of things. That is a very strange pub in some ways!

Anyway, time to see if others want to add their comments, while Lady Lanfranc and I jet off to Morocco for a few days. Carbon footprint, moi? (I've offset!)

Alan

Many thanks Alan & Lady Lanfranc (& Ross too) for another fabulous Winter Sing, hope you managed to raise a few bob for the RNLI. Lovely to hear so many good songs and singers & to meet so many old & new friends. Thanks too for inviting me to sing a few songs in the concert, I thoroughly enjoyed myself *grin* Sorry we had to dash without saying goodbye but the taxi had arrived. Have a good holiday & a well deserved rest!

Hi Alan

You picked the right weekend, weather-wise!

Any news yet on how much money was raised for RNLI?

Subject: RE: Winter Sing 2008 (Barton, Beds UK)
From: Lanfranc

Just back from Marrakech, where the sun was still hot!

Winter Sing turnout was a bit down on last year (weather and credit crunch?), and we didn't have enough bods to justify having the second raffle on the Sunday. The pub had put up their prices, too, but we still made £100 for the RNLI over the weekend. We despatched the cheque today.

Thanks to all who participated, especially to Ross who did a lot of the legwork. We'll see what we can sort out for next year.

Alan

Alan, surprised we didn't run into you there!!. Dilligaff and I flew out to Marrakesh on 14th November and stayed the week - great place. (Which is why I couldn't make the winter sing)
Glad that it all went well.
