BS: When our kids do what we did

So, my daughter who lives here, Rue, has been engaged to her partner since last December when he gave her a ring. She'd told me they were probably going to go to the town clerk sometime in July, that parents would be invited, etc. Didn't hear anything and don't like to pry or push. I didn't care if they did or not, just wanted them to be happy.

Night before last, she called and asked if I'd read my email. I said no. She insisted I go read it with her on the phone, which is REALLY strange for her! There was a "to family and friends" email: a brief message from her that they'd been married on her lunch hour!

They didn't know they were going to do it that day when they woke up. She went to work, started talking to the HR person about getting him on her insurance. The gal asked if she wanted it to start on Oct or Nov first, THEN told her they had to be married to do so. So, Rue called Gary, they met downtown and did the deed. I was not home, she did try to call me, I saw it on my caller ID. Anyway, they are going to have a party and all family and friends will have a chance to get back at them for doing it without us!

The killer is, I cannot really get after her for it as it is almost exactly what my Rog and I did! we lived together and a year later, I got my income tax refund, we got my wedding ring out of layaway, and we bought a new car, got blood tests and license, then got married by a judge in his traffic court courtroom, with the chalkboard and a diagram in the background, the next day. No time for my sisters in town to get time off nor time for my mom and other sister to get up from Colorado and all of Roger's kin were back East.

She also told me Gary has already spoken to his lawyer about adopting Morgan, my grandson, which is exactly what my Rog did with all three of my kids!

So, like mother, like daughter and mum's the word!**BG**

Here's to Rue, Gary and Morgan, married on 30 September 2008!

When I did it it was an exciting time of experimentation and social innovation.
Now my kids are doing it, it's irresponsible, dangerous and I guess I've just wasted my breath trying to advise or educate them about anything at all!

Well...I dodged this entire scenario by very determinedly not having any kids. I can't say I regret it either, although I'm sure that having kids can be among life's most wonderful experiences, and it surely is, for many.

Seems to be the fashion at the moment... friend of mine had a housewarming party for the house he and his partner had bought some months ago and were doing up. When all the friends were there, they told them they'd got married that morning and here was the pastor for the blessing!

Good luck and congratulations to them all!

Well, Best of Luck.

My wife and I aren't really married at all. She stopped by 40 years ago and never left.

Our daughter has recently told me that she is planning a big wedding, to be paid for by the father of the bride. Costing about as much as rebuilding the front porch, two chimneys and a new roof! Gulp. I'm still in denial.

Love and blessings to your daughter and her new husband and to YOU, my dear! It may be a good sign that she sees what you did and finds it to be a shining example!

Me, I practiced till I got it right. I hope my kids learn from me, in a good way!

Kids, if you can do without having kids your life will be blessed in ways that is wonderful (but shouldn't talk about)

Loans are scarce, Corporate Sponsorships are drying up, have you tried running a prostitution ring for spending money?
How about being a Great Dpression consultant?
How about a book? The sex lives of George W Bush and Jonn McCain.

Here's to 'em!

Parents: This is what you get for feeding them. You could have avoided all this, but no, you fed them....
