BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008

05 Oct 08 - 06:00 PM (#2457932)
Subject: Santee taunting thread 2008...........
From: GUEST,A Secret Santa!

Thought I would start a thread to give your santees a little tease.... off you go now, Ho Ho Ho!

05 Oct 08 - 10:35 PM (#2458072)
Subject: BS: Silly Secret Santa hint/teaser 2008
From: Stilly River Sage

I'm starting this thread because Guests or people in guest disguise technically aren't supposed to start BS threads. But from here on out, if you want to REALLY tease your Santee with clues, be sure that you LOG OUT FIRST! (Top of page, drop down menu, select "log out" and reverse to log back in.) Also, along the same lines, when you're in Guest Santa mode, remember not to accidentally sign your name. :)

Enjoy! And once again, thank you Liz for doing this for us!

Let the games begin!

Subject: RE: BS: Silly Secret Santee teaser 2008
From: GUEST,Barb'ry's even more befuddled SS

How did THAT happen? Last thing I need is wretched elves hitting the "submit" button before I finish typing ....drat, drat, drat ... and now a reindeer seems to have forgotten his manners and is barging into me as I'm trying to - look, just behave yourself, will you?
Pointless. Can't read. Might be able to map-read but can't read.

Anyway, Barb'ry, my dear, have you left your Santa any useful hints? Because it's not exactly an easy year, what with the elves all going hyper ADHD on me with those bowls of credit crunch and the reindeer getting silly about blue tongues when they will insist on eating too many M&Ms and then looking in the mirror. So a few hints might be useful.

Oh, and don't worry about me. We won't be expecting mince pies or sherry given the current worries about the sub prime market and all of that stuff. No, no - a nice cup of tea and a crust of stale bread will be fine, and the reindeer can manage perfectly well on carrots.

Your Yule Tide Friend.

Aha! This year, Hollowfox, you will be baffled by the absolute absence of teases, postcards and hints! But I'M ON THE CASE! Be afraid! Be VERY afraid!!!!! Gooooooood Mornnnnnin' Albeekirkeeeeeeeee!

Yes indeedie, you diddee, diddums - just not very useful ones! So you're a senior who wants for gender, preferably in green, and you like books but don't want any, and like CDs but don't want any, and you don't want any DVDs either. Or jewelry.

OK - so I know your shirt size but ... T-shirt? I need something more challenging that that!

And I don't think I'll get a small block of gold for under $20. Or a bike.

Mind you - I'd be quite happy to send you a voucher worth 3 hours of ignoring yard work. I'll sit in my own and ignore it on your behalf. I will not, however, harass a barista for you; might happily flutter at a baristo though.

OK - there might be some mileage in the folk dancing and Renaissance Faire bits ... but we might get back into CD/book territory again.

BUT I WILL PERSEVERE! That is my pledge to you! From hither I shall thither myself thence in search of All Manner of Delights.

I shall keep thee, Arthur, and Thy Faire Guenivere posted ...

Well, aren't you the lucky one.

My elves have already put their thinking caps on to produce a suitable care package for your Battyness. We've heard that flamingos and squid are suitable items for your delectation. Now, it may be a bit of a problem getting them to you, as you live up in the wild country of New Hampshire and flamingos in particular prefer the warmer climes in the winter, not that I blame them!

Watch this space for updates.

'They really big 'uns' have been seen in the vicinity and are regularly seen on the farm at the bottom of the lane and in the wood   a mile away, but they promise to be good and not eat Santa, although one of my pussies did eat a Santa's Christmas robin last year!! Beware of your sleigh and the milk tankers in them there lanes. If you meet one in the lane you'll have to fly over the top, no way can two vehicles pass!

Ohhhhh, Limpit.......

Are you being good?

My elves are watching you and taking copious notes. I might therefore get an idea of what you want for Christmas from my crack(ed) research team, but then again I might benefit from more precise instructions. They do get things jumbled sometimes. Not the brightest bulbs on the string, you know. It says in their notes that you like pink, and kittens, and the Bay City Rollers. That alone gives me some very interesting ideas -- but is there anyhing else I should know?

Cheers,

Ah, yes, dragons without wizards. We are indeed kindred spirits. When I see that overdone picture of the wizard standing by a fierce dragon with a glowing orb of something (energy? crystal ball?) in his hand, I'm always reminded that it's hard to give a pill to a pet.
Do you like Eastern dragons as well, or only the European variety?
No promises now, but what kind of cross stitch projects do you like? Large or small? Charts or kits? Celtic knotwork, landscapes, animals? Cutsie is out of the question.
After all this, I may send you something completely different. You just never know. (Mwahaha)

Mary, I'm glad to hear your old girl is still going strong at almost 16. What sorts of treats can she eat without coming to any harm, would, say, turkey be on her allowed list?

Funnily enough we seem to have quite a few things in common. I also like blue and historical fiction. And I'm fond of Banjo Patterson, although I only know a few of his poems-turned-into-songs. And I'm an animal lover, too, and a dog owner.

Now I think I should go and check on those elves..

The Grand Mistress, she say YES!

Maryrrf's Santa - and I quote: "I also like blue and historical fiction."

So what is 'blue fiction'..? is it naughty? Or is it more mundane and is really just historical fiction in blue covers?

When I worked in a little local library, we had a clientele with an average age of 72, the majority of whom were ladies. If I'd had a pound for every one who came in and asked for a book they'd had last year describing it 'with a lady in a long blue dress on the cover', I'd've been able to retire 15 years ago.

As for Limpits Santa - she's turning into a teenager very very quickly - she spent 3 hours in the bath yesterday!

Secsy, Dear (or should I say 'Dear Sexy'?) your mind seems to be working just like mine - skip the bits that are of no interest - like a stray 'and' - and pounce with pin-point precision on the bits that make you tick. Blue historical fiction, indeed.. This is blue, it's historical fiction and it's also an excellent read. At the moment I'm reading about Whitby. Which reminds me... Lady Mary, do you know the song about Old Whitby Harbour? Lovely song and a favourite of mine.

Leadfingers, are you standing in for Mary or just leaping like a salmon to the fly? :o))

Blue historical fiction - that sounds interesting! The historical bit would be there along with racy sex scenes....

I'm afraid even turkey treats are off limits to my dog Missie. Too much protein and probably too much salt. Her diet now really is very bland and boring - special prescription food with a few bits of fruit, cheerios, or a little white bread with peanut butter as an occasional treat. But, she's doing pretty well now that they got the kidney disease under control. She's got a lot of energy for an old girl!

I hadn't heard that song about Whitby Harbour...is that where the famous folk festival is held?

However I'm not being naughty bad so I don't deserve coal and a stick - just worrying my daughter enough for her to say "My mother is becoming ME!"

Hope this won't count against me.

Hello ClaireBear

You will be pleased to know I am searching high and low to find just the sort of stuff you would like. It gives me excuses to go on journeys which avoid the busy workshop and give me a breath of air.

What sort of books do you and your cub like to read together? Stories or 'finding out' books? Eight is an awkward age - they grow and change so fast.

Hope you are remembering to leave some time for yourself too. Mummy bears need a breathing space in the run up to the festivities.

Dear Santa,

Sorry, I have been working rather a lot and missed your message.

My son and I are both excellent readers. We like to read fairly sophisticated chapter books of a magical -- or at least slightly surreal -- nature. Just now we are reading The Palace of Laughter by Jon Berkeley, a lucky thrift store find that we are very much enjoying. Apparently there are two sequels...

We've also done well with The Hobbit and The Phantom Tollbooth (that was awhile ago now).

I hope this is sufficient information to give you a good beginning -- if not do inquire again and I will try to be more prompt with my replies.

Your faithful friend,

Claire

Well, Tabby - I have it on good authority that Our Liz is of a certain size herself. I expect that may refer to those under the age of discretion that are playing, although it does seem that computer knowledge is largely inversely proportional to age.

Anyway, time creeps on and I have to start to think about considering to begin shopping for the holidays. For my Santee? I think I shall wait for reports from Sunny Spain. Coal in a holey stocking, perhaps...tastefully striped in burgundy and dark green, of course - the stocking, that is.

Hullo Limpit!

I don't mind telling you, assembling your gift has been quite the challenge. The hat and shoes were readily available, of course, and the elves whipped up a sweet little bolero in a lovely fluffy wool, so that was soon sorted. (It will be be quite an ensemble, once all the bits are assembled!) However, it proved quite an ordeal to get both the poodle and the turtledoves dyed the exact right shades of pink to match the chiffon roses...

At last I've found some specialists -- at a shop in one of my favourite holiday destinations, in fact -- who are up to that task, I think. I've had the process tested on one of my reindeer first, of course, and I must say I am quite pleased with the effect. Though the plaids are rather startling together, from certain angles.

At any rate, I've gotten very good advice and have worked very hard to ensure that your pressie will be just to your taste. I do hope it suits!

Just to be sure of its timely arrival, I'm having your parcel sent round early, directly from the dyers. Surely I can count on you not to open it until the appropriate time, whenever that may be in your family. Yes?

Just push some little gobbets of duck breast in through the air holes every so often, to keep the livestock in good spirits, will you? There's a dear!

I remain your humble servant

I trust, at least, that her taste in colour, pattern, clothing and so on has not changed very much since she was four. As long as I've got that bit right, I don't so much mind about when the pressie is opened...

It's a pity Missie isn't allowed turkey. No turkey and no chocolates.. whatever is the world coming to? But if she gets plenty of TLC, that counterbalances the lack of treats, I suppose. We all get older if we live long enough, just look at that Leadfingers.. ;o))

Dear Santa,

You are so sweet to be concerned. Be reassured: I am hardly ever offended. And for the record, I am a church-going, ritual-attending Episcopagan (half Anglican Communion, half daughter of the earth). I sing in the choir at church, and I participate in pagan events too. I don't often work with a group to create pagan rituals these days, but only because my beloved priestess/leader is largely inactive herself.

While I identify myself as both, you may consider me a Christmas keeper. If you'll look at last year's hints, you'll find the story of how I love the spiritual elements of Christmas and live with someone who prefers not to acknowledge it and won't celebrate it, so I'm ridiculously grateful for any Christmas-related cheer that comes my way.

I hope that helps, Santa!

Claire

Are you near a beach then? Here we're not supposed to take rocks from beaches any more as if everyone does it they erode too much, but I usually manage to find an interesting pebble or two. About 20 years ago I found enough small flat pebbles below Tintagel to make my own set of Runes which is still one of my special treasures!

Ah, Santa, in terms of earrings I like either kind, but if they dangle they'd better not dangle too low as I don't have a long neck! What I am looking for, perennially it seems, is a good pair of everyday hoop earrings in either silver or gold. I keep losing one, so I have a fine selection of mis-matched ones at the moment and it's always interesting to see if anyone notices that they don't match. Or if they are too polite to mention it.

Dear Mr. Cap, sorry for my absence. The elves have been staging a strike and I've had to do all the work myself. Things have been sorted out, and now we just have to get caught up on the naughty/nice list. A little question: do you like chocolate, and if so, do you prefer milk chocolate or dark chocolate?

Do I live near Whitby? Weeel... Santa lives near the North Pole, I thought you knew that. But I'd go as far as to say that I live closer to Whitby than you do. It's a very pretty town, indeed, so it is.

Now, Lady Mary, given the fact that you scorn chocolates, if I were to invite you in for a cuppa, would your preference be for coffee or tea?

I hope both you and your Missie are doing fine!

Well Santa, I drink large quantities of both coffee and tea. I adore both beverages but not decaffeinated varieties. I am a caffeine addict and I feed the addiction regularly. I really do love different varieties of teas. I used to get British friends to send me Lady Grey tea until I was able to get it over here, but there is one tea I bought in Britain that I cant find here and that's Yorkshire tea. I got a big packet last time I was over and it's running low now.

Missie is well. She has adapted to her dietary restrictions. She can have things like bits of banana, cheerios, and pieces of toast for treats, and she seems satisfied with that. She's a good old girl!

well at least those looking after three disreputable characters oops sorry mak that four. They are always naughty and regularly have to get skelped from Granny to keep them in order. Leadfingers, Skarpi, Breton Cap and BFDK each deserve at least one lump of coal for all the cheek i have had to suffer this year.

However fairs fair their lives have had good times and some bummers so they probably deserve hugs and candy even more. They are as grand a bunch o troublemakers as ever frequented the cat.

Megan, Dear, make my day, tell your tales. Or are you still counting peedie bits? ;o))

HUH!! I started Christmas in September - filming an advert for TV that is sure to be on our screens soon (Aldi supermarkets, I'm the one with a lamp, purple/green trousers, grey top (bloody wardrobe didn't like my purple jumper) and my hair in a plait) which made £385 for my choir and Cancer Research. And I've been making Christmas goodies since August!

Mind you, it's Christmas all year round in my dining room....

my living room is also Christmas all year round - it's just that I take down the obvious stuff - the tiny trees & other decorations - in July (Christmas in July is an Oz tradition).

Some of my chrissy stuff is too cute to hide away. My Littles' doll's house (Mattel's Littles family!) is permanently set up for christmas, & there are lotsa' chrissy teddies in the general teddy collection. The Librarian Christmas decoration (one of the smallest & cheapest items from one of those extensive & expensive Christmas Villages) sits on my computer desk all year round. There are also an assortment of Chrissy decorations that were hiding when I put away the rest of the decorations in July.

And I still haven't started making the 2008 decoration, tho I did bring out the materials & place 'em on the overcrowded floor.

Now that I've finished the 1000-piece jigsaw ...

I can start the next one, or the 748-piece one!

Or maybe the 3 Wise Men/Kings decoration

Well, I have been out and about, collecting a wee bit here and a wee bit there. [The cat thinks I should include the cat next door, but the neighbors may object. Besides, I reminded her that you said you didn't want another cat.] I need to check with Mrs. Claus, to see if the pressie is adequate for one of your undoubted magnificence - the problem being that I may have to start over if she really likes it! Anyway, plenty of time yet. The mail elves are only just coming out of hibernation.

Of course I might have ended up with my second Canuck Santa in a row after a previously illustrious series of Brits and these common states might have been only fleetingly visited......

Or you might be the first Yank in a whole new chain, who knows?

Dear Santa,

I am very much looking forward to your arrival this Christmas, and I would like to make sure that your brief stay is a comfortable one.

At our house there is a tradition of putting out cheese, crackers and salame (or sometimes a square of lasagne) for Santa, accompanied by a glass of red wine; we figure that by the time Santa arrives in California, he has probably had enough cookies and cocoa to last a lifetime.

Just wondering if that will be acceptable to you, or if there is something else you'd prefer we leave on the work table for your midnight snack?

Your friend,
ClaireBear

PS There shoud be plenty of late-season apples and persimmons in the orchard for the reindeer, and there's a salt lick out there for them too. Much better for them than eggnog, don't you think?

As for those wonderful cards you posted, I have the older ones, and Guide Cats II as well. {Many thanks to Camsco and Old Songs Folk Festival}. I'm drooling over the newer titles, though. Belive me, I study such of those cards as I have, and review them regularly.

Then package them up with plenty of padding for the trip and entrust them to the local postal authorities.

Looks like you might receive the whole kit and caboodle well before Robert Burns' birthday if this keeps up!

Now, how about a few hints, Santa dear? Robbie Burns birthday is still a couple of months away, so does that mean you live far from me? Or does it mean that you spent so much on my pressie that you had to send it by slow elf mail instead of raindeer express? Oh, no, please don't tell me you hired that elf I had employed last year? I'm telling you, he thought the direct route from here to Orkney was via China and Australia..

Anyway, patiently but eagerly awaiting your communications, Santa, and I hope you'll have a jolly festive season in your little corner of the world.

Thank you for your letter. I do like the idea of things other than cookies. You are correct in the fact I eat far too many of them on my run.

I am at the moment in BIG trouble with Mrs Claus. When I started looking for books you would like I started reading all my favourites and she couldn't get me to do anything. She has now confiscated them and locked the book store :-(

Since she won't let me have the key I decided I'd better send you a list which you might appreciate - all would be suitable for you and cub and most of them are the first one of a series.

Pure Dead Magic - Debi Gliori
The Whitby Witches - Robin Jarvis
Weirdstone of Birsingamon - Alan Garder
A Wizard of Earthsea - Ursula Le Guin

I know you can get them on Abebooks on your computer. Hope you will try some of them.

Now that I can't spend my time reading I really must get your parcel packed up and sent. Watch out for it arriving about Yule

Lots of love and hugs

A Christmas Story for people having a bad day:

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drank all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.
The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas

Well, I'm finally finished - with your present, at least. The usual last minute snags, of course. I had every intention of dropping it off on Christmas Eve, when I make my usual rounds, when I had a visit from the head of the Reindeer Union. Seems that your area is under an aircraft warning, and the reindeer refuse to fly there out of fear of being eaten - something about a giant red dragon? As a result, I was forced to consign your gift to the capable hands of the Post, and I was assured that it should arrive sometime between next Monday and St. Dwyn's Day.

The box itself may be opened - the contents are individually wrapped. You should, of course, wait until Christmas or the solstice holiday of your choice to open the obvious gifts - with one exception. There is a small package wrapped in foil from Mrs. Claus that should be opened (and consumed) promptly. The packing material has been carefully selected for your enjoyment.

Are there really dragons in your neighborhood? Would they be interested in hiring on? I can't pay much, but I will supply all of the reindeer they can eat - the buggers breed like mad, and I'm only allowed to keep twelve at any given time.

And a bundle of goodies is on its way to you, clearly identifiable by the words "A Secret Santa" on the outside of the package. Do not be taken in by the box, which was simply a convenient way of holding things together. If you wish to open one or two things before Christmas Day, that's between you and your conscience. I've called off the surveillance team - they're far more active now in the Palace of Westminster, dealing with all sorts of ruffians.

Thanks, Santa - I shall make sure the postman is protected from the local dragon. It's a bit of a hazard at this time of year, when the flames from the dragon's digestive system are more powerful than the summer.
As to your idea about working with the dragons and thus disposing of your surplus reindeer, all I can say is that you'd probably better get really fluent with your Welsh.   They're fussier than the Welsh Language Board about mutations and suchlike and the slightest mistake can result in a nasty burn.

I just got your pressie to the postal gnomes, so it should arrive (they tell me) in time for Christmas. The reindeer wouldn't make an early run. Said they were still in training. And I thought it was a union thing. You only have a few more days that you *have* to be good. I know you can do it!

Oh my, oh my, that was one swift response there, Lady Mary. Were you sitting in wait, or did that Leadfingers notify you?

Do you have to wait to open it? Well now, it's not just one 'it', it's several individually wrapped items, so I suppose you could open the box and... I leave that up to your own discretion. But if you start shaking them, the crystal chandelier may break and the magical music box might just start playing 'Yes, we have no bananas' or 'Oi'm 'enery the Eight, Oi yam', so be warned..!!

The surveillance team has been called off now, they had to speed back to the Greater London area to watch over an unfortunate damsel who had the misfortune to need transportation by car on icy roads and was in the hands of someone they call 'Tailgate' - or so I've been told by usually entirely unreliable sources, at any rate. So, it seems you can safely dive into your box on receipt if you want to. I do hope the items are to your liking, do enjoy the music box and I hope the chandelier fits in with your interior decoration.

I remain,

Yours sincerely,

MXG

Well, it appears that my 4th Gnome will be letting the side down and will not arrive with you until the middle of January at the earliest due to market pressures. This Gnome has already been delayed once so I do hope that the latest plan will be successful. Meanwhile I hope the other 3 Gnomes do their jobs properly and help you to enjoy this Christmas!

My dear Mrs Bat

My elves got it a bit wrong when I asked them to post your parcel. I couldn't do it myself as, whenever I venture out at this time of year, I get surrounded by hordes of kids who want to tell me what they want for Christmas.

Anyway, I asked the (former) chief elf to do the job and he sent it by SURFACE MAIL, which means that you might get it in time for Easter next year, so long as Easter is late!

I am arranging for another part of your pressie to be hand delivered after Christmas but I'm afraid that you will have to put up with the one bit that you have received until then.

In spite of this I hope that you have a very cool Yule.

Dear Greg,
Mary Christmas and I were just out for a stroll last night with the North Polar Bear and Claws the Christmas Kitten, when down flew one of my Christmas Robins to tell me that it was time to send you something very special. Last night I went into the toy workshop and found the Very Special thing I had put to one side for you and took it back to the house. Mary Christmas and I wrapped it up and North Polar Bear helped with packing it in the box. Claws played with the sellotape and got herself into a right pickle, I can tell you. She's a bit bald in places now where we had to pull the sellotape off her but she will soon be all right. Just so she doesn't get cold on her bald bits, Mary Christmas is knitting her a Christmas jumper to keep her warm. The Christmas Robins have taken your present and it is winging it's way to you. I hope you like it. We chose it especially for you.
Have a very Merry Christmas
Love

Santa dear,

I am sorry to hear that you are not in the best of health. Would it be proper to pray for you next Sunday? Oh, right, you're a saint; of course it would be proper!

No worries about potential tardiness -- I shall appreciate my pressie whenever it arrives, and as you say there is still plenty of time before Christmas. Anyway I don't begin to think about getting the house ready for Christmas until about winter solstice, so had your gift got shipped earlier, it would not have a tree to sit under when it arrives.

Thank you very much for remembering me and my cub!

Your affectionate
Bear

Santa, dear, thanks for letting me know -- but spreading out the season will make Christmas all the more enjoyable. (AND I'll be listening to Kendall's CD which you so generously sent me early!)

We've been in the dark (well, nothing new about that) since last Thursday night -- six days without electricity, phone, running water, etcet etcet -- AND WITHOUT MUDCAT!!!!) and the Great Ice Storm of 2008. (Just part of some 440,000 customers without power in New Hampshire.) The power just came back on about an hour ago.

By the way, sometimes went prezzies ARE sent Air Mail, the postal authorities get confused and send them surface anyway. Sigh. Happened to packages we sent a few years back, both sent air mail and at the same time and one (to Leadfingers) arrived in a few days. Poor Rumanci had to wait for about a month and a half. No postal elves were ever fired for that -- nor did we ever get an explanation, apology or refund of the extra postage.

Linn

The best way to keep you from peeking at your package before Christmas is to time your package so it arrives just in time for the holiday.

I had to scramble to find an independent reindeer delivery courier, but have and did dispatch your parcel. Said reindeer is delivering several other parcels en route but I am assured she (most of them are "she," BTW, if you want antlers on your delivery ungulates this time of year) will have it there middle of next week.

It looks as though your parcel may not have made it through the ice, snow and winds to get to you in time for December 25th :-{

Don't give up on it! Remember the original day for recieving presents which is still celebrated in some countries is January 6th. With any luck it should make it to you for the feast of the Magi. A good excuse to spread your celebrations the whole of the time of the Lord of Misrule.

Hope you enjoy tomorrow and that your surprise arrives VERY soon.

Skarpi,

It's been a long while with no verse and no talk.
I'd much work to do and some bad writer's block.
Don't worry, your gift is not being held hostage.
It's somewhere in the mail flow with the proper postage.
A selection of presents to achieve proper balance
So they'll mention you're "gifted" as well as your talents.
I'm sure all the presents will find a good home
So forgive me for trying to rhyme that with "poem".
I'm still an apprentice at writing in verse
It'll be there real soon, so things could be far worse.
