Looking for the words and chords to a song called Katie. I think it's a Jimmy MacCarthy song. "Tumbling curls in green...". Wonderful imagery in this song. Anyone know it's origin?

Yes, it's by Jimmy McCarthy. Recorded by Mary Black on her 1987 album "By the Time it gets Dark".

The song can be found in The Mary Black Songbook comp. Declan Sinnott, pub. Dara Records.
Chords include Bb, Gm/C, Bbmaj7, Eb, Cm7, Fadd9, Ebmaj7, F, F7, Eb6.

If you were a Mudcat member, you could PM me your email address and I could send you a scan.

Cheers,
Michael

KATIE
Jimmy McCarthy

Tumbling curls of green by stained-glass streaming light,
And a yellow-coloured lampshade used to keep us up all night,
And the smile upon your face, a tear upon your cheek,
And the night sky on the window, your heart calling out to me.

CHORUS: Come running home again Katie, come running home again,
Cross my heart and hope to die, shall I cause another tear from your eye?

The mirror that won't talk and your nightgown on the door,
The old pedal Singer just don't sing no more,
You can roll the reels for hours, from the movie from this book,
It's a question mark on this heart of mine, sends an elder back to look.

CHORUS
Katie.

Now I'm looking through a tunnel back into the room,
With the genius of a Druid, when the sunlight floods the tomb,
And I'm never going back there, and I couldn't anyway,
'Cause though I made the great escape, I never got away.

CHORUS

If the chords above are too hard to play, I have broken this one down to the basics of a three chord song, G, C, and D
Here you go Katie with three chords
Most of the guitar players I know wouldn't have a clue how to play Fadd9 or Ebmaj7

Lovely song - I play this in G (capoed up a few)
G Bm C Am am7
C D7 G (Em)-optional
C Am D7
(repeat)
Chorus:
G +d G C Am
C D7 G Em Bm C Am

a nice addition is to play CM7 and Am7 instead of C and Am - quite easy but adds a nice plaintive sound

Sounds like the music is available in the mary black songbook ( as stated above)
