Vin Garbutt cancels Twick gig tonight:

In the last hour we've had a call from Vin's wife Pat advising us that Vin won't be well enough to perform at Twickenham tonight.

He started to come down with the lurgy yesterday but was able to struggle though his set at Banbury Folk Festival last night. However he's worse today and we've decided we have no choice but to scrub tonight's gig.

We've re-arranged it for the next available date....January 11th 2009.

Tickets for tonight will be valid for the new date....alternatively refunds will be available from wherever tickets were purchased.

Apologies for short notice.....we're hoping to arrange a good quality alternative guest for tonight for those who still turn up.

That's a shame- wish him well if you contact him.

I should have mentioned it's due to laryngitis....

Coincidentally Vin and his wife Pat were staying last night in the same accommodation at our good friends Cathryn Craig and Brian Willoughby (who are themselves playing at Banbury this lunchtime).

We've spoken to Cathryn and Brian who have confirmed that Vin actually can't utter a word today (he's using a notepad to communicate) but they have kindly offered to step in and play for us tonight in place of Vin. They'll be offstage at 2pm in Banbury and will be shooting a video this afternoon before heading back towards London to arrive in Twickenham by about 7pm.

It's great news that they're happy to step into the breach and get us out of a hole. Hopefully if you were planning to come you'll still be happy to stay for Cathryn & Brian instead.

Too far to come. Brian and Catherine are amazing and such lovely people too.

Brian and Catherine are one of very few acts I've ever seen be forced to do a genuine encore. They had left the stage, they were packing up, and the audience were still throwing fits - they came back and did a couple more numbers.

At Masham, probably 2007 ...

They are fantastically nice people, and a great act.

Blimey. If he writes like he talks, there's another rainforest-worth of notepads gone.

Vin not being able to speak is going to be purgatory for him. Get well soon!

Good Luck to Vin for a quick recovery, and, good luck to Brian and Catherine his replacements at the gig
Nothing worse than what happened to Vin - it's happened to most of us it's infuriating , but there's not a lot you can do about it.
It would need to be serious , Vin's a trooper and loathe to cancel a gig .
I know he canceled a few gigs a year or so a go , when he "only" had a heart valve rebuilt, and at the same time (which the the heart Surgeons didn't realise) had had a burst duodenal ulcer, which, naturally didn't readily assist his recuperation.
He's hardly a wimp who would back off because of a tickly throat, so enjoy him on Jan 11th - I don't suppose you will hear the end of the laryngitis - even by then !!!!!
p.s. I keep spelling cancelled with two "ll's " but this bloody spell check is insisting on one "l".

Then it's probably set to US English, not UK. Old Noah chucked out all the 'Unnecessary' doubled letters, probably to reduce the cost of his dictionary.

Vin was indeed struggling on Saturday. He did not back out and even managed to raise a lot of laughs. At the end of his afternoon session I gave him some "Vocalzone" and he was plied with lots of other lozenges and potions by other folk in the audience. I was amazed to see him perform in the evening, but he obviously did not want to let people down. He seemed to be feeling quite poorly but nevertheless finished his set.A remarkable professional.

Get well soon Vin
