Gordon Lightfoot's current tour

I saw Gordon's concert last night in San Diego - at Humphrey's outdoor venue on the bay. He looked more than a little gaunt and his voice has weakened noticeably, but his musicianship was still spot-on and his sense of humor intact. Terry Clements, on lead guitar, and Rick Haynes, on bass, are still there and still drive the "Lightfoot sound" very credibly. All in all, I was glad to see him healthy and able to perform, but suspect this might be the last tour. We had audience members who had flown from Kansas City and Salt Lake City, among other places, specifically to see this concert. It brings to mind the Tom Wolfe sentiment that "you can't go home again." But, for all of us, I think it was more an exercise in fond memory and, perhaps, a last chance to say thanks for a great body of work.

Every once in awhile I dig out one of his records and I am reminded just how incredible this singer songwriter is.
Was also sadden to hear of the passing of Red Shea who contributed so much to the Lightfoot sound.

Gee, I sure hope he makes it down into Texas; he is one of my music heros. I got to interview him when I was at Eastern Michigan and then again, a few years later, in Texas. If this is his last tour
it would be a shame to miss him. Cheers,..............mwh

Without inspiration from the magic of GL, I'd still be bashing out chords with a plectrum - 45 years of playing guitar, but the fingers only really started working after hearing "If You Could Read My Mind" for the 1st time. Bless you Gordon....

One of the great singer-songwriters of our time.Unfortunately, his voice and delivery have weakened but some of the old magic is still there. He was one of my favourites.

Sit Down Young Stranger was one of my faves of his and today I played it outdoors as my lead off song, some 37 years on,   he was , and still is an inspirational legend, I have several vinyls and once saw a poster advertising his appearance in Springfield mass, but the wife was not up for hanging around for 4 days!

To Michael Harrison:

He is scheduled to appear in Amarillo on Sunday, October 26th. I have no idea where the venue might be. Check his on-line tour schedule. Hopefully, you aren't too awfully far across Texas from there.

He's one of the finest songwriters ever, just an incredible body of great songs have come from that man.

It was Lightfoot that got me listening (hooked) to folk.

Gordon's thinner, the voice is thinner, but the music still soars. When I saw him perform Canadian Railroad Trilogy at Chatauqua Theater in Boulder last summer, the crowd gave a terrific ovation at the opening chords, and a standing ovation at the end. Some one shouted "Encore!" and Gord said "thanks, but that was all I had."

I wouldn't be a folk singer if it hadn't been for him. As I have a pint beside me at the moment, I shall lift it in tribute to his genius. Thanks, Gordon.
