I've just had an email in from Jim Mageean telling me that there' s part of the Inside Out programme on BBC1 tonight (7.30pm) devoted to shanties collected in Sunderland in the 1920's by James Madison Carpenter. The Keelers are featured.

I've had a look at the Radio Times and it appears that it's only on in the NE/Cumbria regions. I don't know if regional variations are accessible via the iPlayer, but it might be worth checking.

The Video clip has just been shown on the Boston (USA) news program. Tim R (This thread is MUCH more interesting than the endless one about English Traditional Instruments.....)

I'm currently in Clearwater, Florida, it's just been shown on the local PBS TV station, courtesy of BBC World Service TV. Excellent, just not enough of the article! Due to the way the Beeb's 'watch it again' works, I can't view it online here.

Yes, my husband called me in to see it here in Maine, too. Wish I had seen the whole thing!

The regional programme is available on iPlayer (UK): Inside Out - NE/Cumbria. The article starts at 19:14 into the program through to the end.
