What is the name of the melody to which "Kelly, The Boy From Killan" is sung? I am sure it predates the lyrics.

I don't know its name, but to me it sounds like an ancestor of the written tune 'Kelso Fiddle & Accordion Club'.

Why are you sure, Allan?

Sorry to disappoint but Healy attributes both the words and the tune of Kelly of Killanne to P J McCall. However Breatnac in Songs of the Gael 1915 states 'Mr McCall also kindly supplied me with the air. He is of the opinion that this version of the air has never before been published.' This could be taken several ways of course, but it could imply that the air was already known when he wrote the words.

I think there is either a thesis or a book in preparation on McCall - which might help pin this down.
