Plans are afoot to compile a history of Bedford Folk Club which started in 1965. If anyone has any memories about it please pm me giving details of the event, year & venue.

Thanks

Mingulay and I were members for a few years, when it was the Fallen Angel FC at, I think, The Globe. Sadly a stroke has wiped a considerable amount of memory but if you PM Mingulay he might have more information.

Hi, I was active in the Bedford Folk Scene in the Seventies when the Bedford Club was 'The Angel' - ie before its fall. I helped run the sing around clubs and with my friend Roy Martin started the Kempston Folk Club at the Smiths Arms, but never the 'Bedford Club' itself. Saw several biog names at the club, including Cyril Tawney with whom I worked at a concert in Gosport several years, and a lifetime later.
I'm looking for photos of those days at the Angel, The Fleur-de-Lys and The Fox and Hounds but will start another thread on that subject.

Iwas booked there several times, I remember a bald gentleman with a penchant for driving fast sports cars,I found his driving a bit like russian roulette, in the end i closed my eyes and prayed.
there was also bill prince, who ran a club there for a considerable while,i think he is a member of this forum, he played guitar and sang pretty well.

I think the bald guy would be Geoff Boughton.

He and his wife, Barbara, ran the club for a long time.

They live on a narrowboat now moored somewhere around Bedford. Sadly I have lost touch with them but Les Sullivan might now where they are.

I used to go to a club in the centre of Bedford when I was working away in the late 80's. I think it was at a pub called the Prince of Wales or the PoW fetahers. Is that the same one - I have very fond memories of it.
