24 Oct 08 - 03:11 PM (#2475135) Subject: BS: McCain vs Heart From: PoppaGator I posted this this morning, and haven't seen any response at all. I think I didn't give it an enticing enough title, so instead of a simple "refresh," I'm starting from scratch with "McCain" in the title: http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/barracuda.asp True: The McCain campaign has used the song "Barracuda" without permission, and the Wilson sisters (of the rock band Heart) have issued a cease-and-desist order. False: The over-the-top fictional protest letter circulating on the internet about this controversy (seen in the Snopes article, in graphic rather than textual form). It may be phony, not to mention "crude and rude," but it sure is funny! (This may have gotten by as a "music" thread topic, but my intentions are entirely bullshit-related.) Joe and/or clones: Feel free to delete the earlier thread entitled "Unauthorized Use of Heart's 'Barracuda'" |

24 Oct 08 - 10:14 PM (#2475496) Subject: RE: BS: McCain vs Heart From: Ron Davies PoppaGator-- I think this is a fascinating link--and I'm about ready to buy the book about country and rock stars and how their songs are used in politics. I'd heard some of this, but it's just the sort of thing I like to know about--being pretty interested in politics, especially now--and of course addicted hopelessly to a huge array of music. The intersection of the two is especially riveting. The varying attitudes of the composers and performers across the political spectrum toward use of their songs sounds like great reading. Thanks for bringing it up. |
