26 Oct 08 - 09:47 AM (#2476424) Subject: Folk on a Sunday Lunchtime From: SPB-Cooperator Does anyone know of any Sunday lunchtime folk clubs, sessions or singarounds in and around the London area. Around 1980 I remember the free folk in foyer, lyric theatre, and in later years a music session at the Riverside Studios - both Hammersmith. Much more recently, late 90s or early 00s a session in Kingston. I also have vague memories of pubs that occasionally welcomed singing or music, but nothing long term. |

Fab Club is just the other side of the Thames at The White Hart, Kings Walk, Argent Street, RM17 6HR. We have a singer's club on 1st and fouth Sunday afternoons in the back room. Guest plus singers on 3rd Sunday,in the pool room at present (back bar). We are considering moving the guests into the back room as it can get a bit noisy from the football. We have just set up a Myspace... Myspace/Fab Club Grays where you can see a list of gigs, and here is the website. Fab Club |

Grays is a bit of a trek from West London but I can try to get there occasionally. Maybe some like-minded people could start something up inthe West London/Middlesex area. |
29 Oct 08 - 07:47 AM (#2478877) Subject: RE: Folk on a Sunday Lunchtime (London, UK) From: GUEST,HSA There's an Irish music session in the Crown in Cricklewood on Sundays from about 3.30 to 6 - bit later than lunchtime I know. There are others but they tend to be a bit later - more Sunday tea time than lunchtime! Helen |

23 Aug 09 - 03:14 PM (#2706792) Subject: RE: Folk on a Sunday Lunchtime (London, UK) From: Sarah the flute Irish sessions in South London can be located via a search on the Session website www.thesession.com I go to The Kilkenny Tavern on a Tuesday evening. There's a great variety of players - usually around 20 playing all sorts of instruments including pipes and ukelele (not at the same time!) Its a good crowd. The pace is steady not slow but not too manic either and is broken up with a few songs. It's next door but one from South Wimbledon Tube. Starts around 9.30pm until late. Blythe Tavern in Catford on a Thursday Various in Lewisham (not sure how many are still going!) Kingston, Richmond and Tooting Newish one in Gypsy Hill (Sundays I think) Cheers Sarah |
