Looking at pictures of myself from the Getaway, I am again reminded that the hair on the back of my head always looks like a rat's nest. Short of hauling a brush around and using it every 15 minutes, I have never figured out what, if anything, I could do about it. I see women with similar length hair with and without this same problem. It has been life-long, and may be related to posture. It is, however, always a shock when I see photos of myself that show the back of my head. Looking at myself in the mirror from the front, all looks smooth and reasonably well-groomed. I don't style or dry my hair. Wash it. Comb it. Let it dry on it's own. Does the hair on the back of your head have the same tendency? If so, have you figured out a solution? |

I have what is called a double crown at the back of my head, where the hair chooses to grow its own way despite anything I try to do to it. It has been a pain in the ...whatever all my life. I could get it shaved off I suppose but then again it is going anyway so perhaps better live with it for maybe a few years longer. Perhaps going to a good stylist might solve your problem.. but I am no expert. Best wishes, Mike. |

I solved the problem by (1) not brushing it at all and letting it all look like a rat's nest, or (2) keeping it tied back, or (3) keeping it in a braid, and (4) not resting my head against things. My hair is thin and baby fine, also quite dry unless I use a conditioner every day, or every time I wash it, which is usually every day. I use Sexy Hair Soymilk Conditioner, along with their soymilk shampoo and highly recommend it. You can find it in salons. My daughter has gorgeous, long hair and uses it, too. |

My sister Deb calls it the "ick spot" because the hair seems coarser there for some reason. Product is the answer. Conditioning your hair and using some sort of gel or straighener or even mousse will help greatly. A little dab will do ya, as they say. |

I use Suave brand Coconut based conditioner only to clean my hair. My hair has always tended to by oily, so I would shampoo it every morning. It would go from being rather dry early in the day to stringy oily by the end of the day. Now, I saturate/scrub my hair in the shower with the coconut oil conditioner, rinse it out at the end of the shower, and it looks great all day. It doesn't get as oily or unmanageable as it used to when I used shampoo and conditioner. Try just the conditioner to clean with. You'll be surprised how well it works. |

He is convinced many hair & skin problems are caused by modern cleaning products that strip goodness from hair & skin. Skin Fitness - Safe & Healthy Skin Care by Hugh Molloy & Garry Egger article from The Age on the book. I have very long, fine hair which I can almost sit on, & keep it in a pony tail held with 4 elastic rings & found that my normal twice a week wash, using conditioner only, rather than shampoo & conditioner works well. sandra |

If shorter than shoulder length, my face tends to resemble a pumpkin, so it is always long enough to tangle with my collar. I also have tendency to simply assume that what ever I see in the mirror in the morning when I finish my ablutions remains unchanged during the day. What I really want is an incantation I can recite as I comb out my hair after the shower that will asure everything will stay in place without further thought from me! |

I have the same problem - straight heavy hair in front and on top; curly stuff underneath. Go with any shampoo but a good coditioner used sparingly. Then forget about it. I have wavy hair that is perpetually tangled at the back. Regular combing, having hair in a braid or plait, and wearing collarless shirts/tops is all I can suggest.
