Muir-Bok-Trickett? 'Wind blows softly'?

Trying to identify a song I heard in the early 1980s, probably on Mary Cliff's "Traditions" on WETA-FM Washington, DC. The lead singer, I think, was Ann Mayo Muir; she may have had Gordon Bok and Ed Trickett with her. (OR, maybe it was Ronnie Gilbert and some Weavers?) The lyrics went something like: "Ah, the leaves, the quiet leaves/ The wind blows softly through the trees/ [something something something] water." The melody went something like: "G-- AC -- CD D EG--/ GA B C A G F E/ CDE E D C AC..." Neither DigiTrad nor Google have borne fruit.

Thanks for any help or ideas...

Well, The Ways of Man (click) has a similar meter, but the words don't match. Take a look at it, though.

Good catch, Joe. For all the difference in lyrics, there are enough similarities in the melodic line (not that I can get much out of it from the info posted) for me to think it's the same song and you nailed it.

I have the Bok 'Collection' including the full words of 'The Ways of Man' if it would help. The particular words quoted in the query do not appear, but the pattern is identical.

'The Ways of Man' is already in the DT, and the lyrics are on this site.

Here.

We do have the words, thanks Dave.

How delightful to see a post from Dave Goulder, composer and writer of so very many lovely and funny songs. Hi there, Dave.

maeve....in Maine and wishing for a Goulder wall.

Guest Freddy Strange, welcome. I hope you note what an amazing thread this is.   A newcomer here has posed a question with not a lot to work with, as the words may not be accurate after decades, and in a matter of hours has heard from a world-class songwriter, a world-class performer, and the Boss of the site all trying to help. I hope this is the song you want, but if it is not, I know folks will keep trying to help you locate it. And I hope you decide to become a member; you will likely get a chance to help someone else out the same way soon.

Yup, that's it. As a longtime lurker here, I'm neither amazed nor surprised -- I knew this was the right place -- but I'm duly grateful and always impressed. Thanks, everybody.

I think I know every song they ever sang but I don't recognize this one.
