02 Nov 08 - 07:00 PM (#2482801) Subject: BS: Heavenly evening From: TRUBRIT Yesterday my husband and I were invited to dinner at the home of our younger daughter who lives with her boyfriend some two hours north. My older daughter and her fiance came too, under their own power. Mim called me two or three times - - are you sure you are coming, when you are leaving, are you bringing the dog etc etc. We arrived to be hugged and welcomed -- we were taken off for a tour of her new home town and a walk for the dogs - ours and her sister's. We were introduced to the mama cat and three baby kittens she is fostering, and met her new baby cat, safely ensconced in the bath room until the 18lb resident cat, Tiger Tom is ready to deal with the baby,,,, She served peanuts, she served drinks - she socialized with us while the boyfriend chopped vegetables.....we talked about the upcoming wedding, life, the universe and all that. So what was so heavenly ?-- two of my three children - steady, stable, happy - in good relationships and welcoming our company......let me tell you, there is nothing sweeter!!! Having watched both of them but particularly the younger one put themselves/herself through hell, having watched years when they would barely speak to each other or to me.....(Their dad has always been on their list of acceptable people....!) it was - with no exaggeration - a heavenly evening!! |

03 Nov 08 - 05:11 PM (#2483740) Subject: RE: BS: Heavenly evening From: jeffp OK, I will. Yesterday I went to the birthday celebration of my 4-year-old twin granddaughters. I don't get to see them nearly often enough and they are absolutely adorable. One of them spotted my fiancee getting out of the car and shouted to the other, "Grandpa's here!" I also got to see my 1-year-old grandson. Quite a wonderful day. It made me proud to see my sons being such good fathers. |

Friday night I got to officiate, and say a few words, for the wedding ceremony for our Great Niece, the first of her generation of the family to get married. Hadn't had the chance to see her since she was in early grade school. It was at once a hoot, with everything Holloween themed, and a sweet time with family. |

12 Nov 08 - 08:18 PM (#2492326) Subject: RE: BS: Heavenly evening From: Amos The first time we visited my daughter in her own apartment she had run around like a crazed thing for two days before we arrived cleaning and neatening so we would be impressed. I can't count the number of times we have done the same thing for my wife's parents on visits. To be on the receiving end of that special effort, and to beam approval, was an awesome turning point.
