09 Nov 08 - 04:40 PM (#2489267) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: Northerner I listened to it last night. Unfortunately the reception on my radio was slightly patchy. However I did enjoy it. |

09 Nov 08 - 04:56 PM (#2489280) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: The Borchester Echo It's on the iPlayer. where I just listened to it. It's not a patch on the dramatisation of the Michael Morpurgo novel at the National Theatre (being . . . ahem . . . a Smooth Operations production) and you can't see the puppets, but it was OK. |
09 Nov 08 - 05:37 PM (#2489308) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: skipy O/K! it was a lot more than O/K, brilliant piece of theatre, we loved it. Skipy |
09 Nov 08 - 05:49 PM (#2489322) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: Gervase I have to agree with Ms Easby - having read the book to my stepson, I thought the production was rather flat, despite the stellar cast and the musical contribution. That said, I'm still glad I recorded it for him. Stand to, Bonny Lads was the only song I hadn't heard before (either on CBS's Great War material or from Lark Rise), and I'd also be interested to know more about it. |
09 Nov 08 - 05:50 PM (#2489323) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: Gervase Blimey, just Googled the title, and the only hit was Keith's post above! That's quick/spooky. |
10 Nov 08 - 03:51 AM (#2489598) Subject: RE: War Horse on BBC Radio 2 - John Tams/CBS From: The Borchester Echo Isn't that what I just said? The stage production was brilliant whereas the uninspired and flat direction of the wireless adaptation had the verve of a schools radio drama and had me drifting off into What Anna Sewell Did in The Crimea and What Shall I Make For Tea. This didn't happen at the Olivier production. But then, as I remarked, you couldn't see the Handspring puppets on t'wireless . . . |
