Mudcatters I'd like to play music with

11 Nov 08 - 08:10 PM (#2491284)
Subject: Mudcatters I'd like to play music with
From: Nick

Now this is based on very little apart from how I feel - and it excludes all the people who are Mudcatters who I have played music with (in case they got offended).

So here's a list of people who I would be really interested in sharing - ie playing music with one day. It's in no order and I'll probably add to it and there are no explanations as to why either -

Don Firth
M Ted
Little Hawk
Jerry Rasmussen
Richard Bridge
Jim Carroll
Acorn4
WeeLittleDrummer

It's a start

Anyone else have that?

I forgot Diane Easby who should have been in that initial list.

I think Donuel mentioned something a little while ago, about either he, or a person he knows, had something to do with symphonic music.

Either that or theatrical musical scores, or audio-logic music(of which I'm considered a pioneer)...least that what the article said.(never heard of it before that)

But I'd really like to play with the Americans... I haven't been there and would love to spend some time travelling round the country - but it requires a major lottery win first off.

I'm quite sure no-one wants to play with me - I'm not really very good.

I'd like to play with Slats and with Dave Bryant again, 'cos they're dead and I wish they were alive again (and at the height of their powers).

I once did a workshop under Jon Loomes and I'd really like to play with him.

I don't think Eliza C counts, she's not a member but an occasional guest.

I'd like to try some stuff with PFR and WLD.

I'd like to try some electric stuff with everyone who has posted to my "Folk Metal" thread.

Honest to God I would be honored to play with any member here at mudcat. I would not only completely enjoy it but I would learn from the masters. I have never heard of a place with more talent then right here on mudcat. Everytime I hear someone's work , I get blown away.

I have to say that playing music with friends you have come to know and love on Mudcat is a rather surreal experience. In a way, its like you get to play music with celebrities. Playing guitar on Streets of Baltimore with Peter T and Amos under the gazebo at the Getaway, with seagulls soaring on the breezes over Chesapeake Bay, was comfortable, pleasant, satisfying, and yet cast over with a rather dream-like aura. It seems even now as I think about it, not like something that happened, but something that I might imagine has happened.
Anyway, I highly recommend it!

I'd like to play with 'Spaw, though I think that by the time we'd finished exchanging insults and jokes, comparing operation scars and discussing the finer points of vegemite and what to eat it with, whilst pausing for the occasional beer, there wouldn't be much time left for playing!

Maybe I'd have to come visit for a few MONTHS???

Cheers

Oddly enough, I have actually played in a session, with Eliza C... she and the folks were at Towersey one year, she joined in the session that was going on outside the beer tent, where I was having a quiet tootle with my recorder, trying vainly to keep up!

She just sat down opposite me and joined in like it was the most natural thing in the world. I don't think many people realised who she was (it was during her 'frequent hair dye' period) until her dad brought her over a beer.

If I had to pin it down to one person... I'd have to take the Fifth... no way could I choose between all the great and funny people here.

Thanks for the mention, Nick.

I'm not actually sure who a lot of the Mudcatters are, and I'm sure I've run across a lot of them wihout knowing it.

I'm sure our paths will cross one day. I'm usually found at these "anything goes" sessions and singarounds which pop up at most festivals.

My brother Jeff aka "Ironmule". He's the first person I ever saw play a 12 string guitar in person{ which he still owns }. We need to work up a few numbers.

I bumped into John Giok Mackenzie in Sidmouth and I think surprised him by saying 'aren't you...' but then he has a quite distinctive look. And is much less grouchy in real life :)

I'd love to play with just about everyone here. I have not met many Mudcatters, but I loved the ones I met on my trip to the UK with Markus four years ago. Playing in the UK was a dream, which I would like to live again. However, if fate ever makes it possible, I will go to the US and meet so many of those warm hearted and talented folks over there. I have so many of you on my CD player at home that most of you have been in my house already - and I am much richer for it.

I'm already playing with one that I'd like to continue playing with ... and it all crept up rather by chance .. Ralphie of this parish (OK he's a guest these days but he was a member some while ago) ... and I just missed playing with Mary and Anahata as well by the skin of my teeth last week (never let concertina players near an onion with a sharp knife - the end results can be not nice)... maybe another time (I live in hope) ?
