Lyr/Chords Req: Windy City (from June Tabor)

Subject: windy city lyrics and chords
From: Rebecca Brown

I'm looking for the lyrics and chords to a song called Windy City, I think I have a copy of June Tabor singing it. The chorus runs something like "And its goodbye Windy City, I'm going someplace warmer and I'm never coming back.."

I can't remember it off hand.

I've looked all over the net for it and I can't find it, please help me as I'd love to add it to my song collection.

Thank you Rebecca Brown

June Tabor sings WINDY CITY on "Against the Streams," 1994. It was written by Ian Telfer. (There are several other songs with the same title.) I got these words from a sound sample:

You wore yourself to shadow, your fingers to the bone.
You raised (?) too many children. Now you watch them leaving home.
And all your rooms are narrow, all your…

As I remember it:

Goodbye Windy City
You widow dressed in black
I'm going someplace warmer
and I'm never coming back

WINDY CITY
As sung by June Tabor on "Against the Streams" (1994)

Somewhere in the ether they are talking ship-to-shore,
But the lines that bound an empire do not run here anymore.
You hear the hooters calling at the breaking of the day.
They call to wake the master but the master's gone away.

CHORUS: And it's goodbye windy city, you widow dressed in black.
I'm goin' someplace warmer and I'm never comin' back,
Never comin' back.

You wore yourself to shadow, your fingers to the bone.
You raised too many children; now you watch them leaving home.
And all your rooms ... ; all your skies are cloud.
Do you know what love is? Can you say the word out loud?

CHORUS

We went to church on Sunday; we wore our Sunday best.
We went to work on Monday, the damned just like the blessed,
Just like the blessed.

Some walk down by the water to see the seagulls fly.
You can spend your whole life fishin' and watch your day go drifting by.
I hear the hooters calling but I cannot stop or stay.
The train is in the station and it's taking me away.
