Any London Folk Clubs Sun & Mon?

Hi Folks,

Have an Aunt & Uncle (from the San Francisco area) visiting London & am going out there (from Sheffield) to meet up with them for Sun & Mon. (so no web access after about 8.30 am) They're seriously into theatre, but am going to see if I can persuade them to attend a folk club with me. First though, I have to know what's on...

Preference for Sun pm or evening (they have tickets for Billy Elliott on Mon eve), in a good pub with real ale. Performer & floorsingers would be ideal (that way I might even get a chance to show off to them ;-), as they've never really heard me sing); a singaround would be second choice (though a Mon eve singaround would be a definite possibility for me & hubby while they go Billy Elliott-ing).

Also needs to be easily accessible via public transport.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,
YY
(aka Vikki Appleton Fielden)

Vikki - hope you can make it to Herga. Within walking distance of Northwood Hills station on the Metropolitan line, or the H11 bus from Harrow on the Hill stops almost outside the front entrance of the Greenwood Hall.

Thanks to George, Herga Kitty & Geordie Peorgie... too bad both clubs are on the same night (Sod's law...)!

No guarantees, but we'll prolly try to get to Herga (if circumstances don't dictate otherwise).

Funnily enough, just had the pleasure of 'seeing' Tom Bliss (along with Ciaran Boyle - brilliant bodhran player from Rotherham - and a fine guitar player whose name I don't remember) at Kiveton Park a week ago Tues... great stuff!

Still hoping for a Sunday folk club to bring the relatives along to...

I've just seen this thread....so it's probably too late now.

At TwickFolk we have Dick Gaughan tonight....and you and your folks would be more than welcome to join us.

I think we tick all the boxes you mention...and we'll get you seats at the front too (and offer you a floor spot!)

Out of fairness (and since we're neither territorial nor competetive) I should mention there's also a folk club in Walthamstow on a Sunday night...I think they have Tom McConville tonight

I think we both probably posted too late, Tom.

I just wanted to say thanks for remembering us though! (in their haste to mention the Herga we seem to have slipped the minds of both Kitty and George)

Hope you have a good night on Monday though...

Cheers Gerry - you got my note about being unable to pop in for a spot tonight? I'm detained up north by the wonderful Durbervilles and their marvellous folk show on Radio Leeds. (U going to the AFO btw?)

Checking my list I also have The Royal George at Deptford on Sunday (but no contact details) and The Folk & Blues Club at the Three Tuns in Staines on Mondays. Oh and Croydon Folk Song Club is on Mondays if you can go out that far.

Yes, I got your message thanks, Tom.

With a bit of luck Vikki might pick up a copy of Time Out. Then she can see a full list of her options for both nights.

Happy trails!

Yes we have Tom McConville at Walthamstow tonight. Thanks for the mention TwickFolk. I was out all day yesterday so am also probably too late in posting.

Kitty...

Yorkshire Yankee has just phoned me (from a pub) and asked me apologise to you on her behalf.

She and Iain have been given tickets to a theatre, so they won't be able to come to Herga tonight.

I would have PMd you, but this way someone else may see this tonight and pass on the apology.
YY will be in touch when she gets back to Sheffield.

Many thanks to all who posted with suggestions. (My apologies for this late follow-up; have been down with a bad cold & still trying to keep up with the regular day-to-day stuff as well.)

To TwickFolk & Kevin Sheils: we did actually manage to see your suggestions even though we were in London by then (have discovered that my Uncle is a Blackberry user), and my Aunt & Uncle were just about sold on the idea of going to a folk club with us -- until they found out it didn't start til 8.30 pm. They were just too tired (still rather jet-lagged) to give it a go, so -- unfortunately -- that was the end of that.

To Tom B: ditto the above, and my apologies to you (and to and Mr Napper as well) for getting you two muddled (I've got a mind like a steel sieve, me!)

As for Herga, me & hubby were set to head over -- until my Aunt & Uncle made us an offer we simply could not refuse (i.e. they very generously bought tickets for us to attend Billy Elliott with them).

Again, thanks to everyone for their helpfulness.

YY
